It’s south facing and my strongest winds would be almost due south winds so it’ll be hit head on.

What’s the best for a garage door?
As a rule if thumb, letting the wind into your structure is a bad idea.

I love how people have no problem swimming in a lake or river but God forbid a pool have a touch of algae in it
Doesn't it build up more in a small contained pool vs a moving river or larger lake?

I’m in the hospital with my wife. She’s in labor. The baby could be born tonight. Could be born tomorrow. I don’t know how much time I will have to prepare my house. frick me boys and girls. We live in Baton Rouge, so we’re not in the worst place possible, but it certainly isn’t good. My family has been lucky for a long time. I really wish that this was not the weekend it would run out. I know I should have prepared for this, but I just dropped the ball. I’ve asked family for help, but I don’t know how much they’ll be able to do.
Same, but in Mandeville and fiancé is doing a home birth. I’m as prepared as best I can, but I don’t have too many options right now.

It’s actually a California garage (or whatever you call it). It has a garage door on it but no other walls except for the house wall. Basically it’s a carport with a garage door.

Man that's tough, then. I'd just be concerned with it blowing the garage house door open or possible looters after the storm passes and before you make it back home (assuming you're leaving)

Remember for Laura how someone posted the NAM going sub 900mb and everyone freaked out before they were aware it's not designed to handle tropical systems?
Well I won't post the picture, but it's taking Ida down to 884mb.

I firmly planted my grandmother's arse in a hotel. Rented that bitch up for a week and I looked for a hotel where I know if it doesn't have a generator it's guaranteed to have power before anyone. It sits on the power grid with the local hospital right across from the street so she's going to get her power if this thing ravages. They'll definitely flip the hospitals on before anyone else.

I’m in Youngsville. I’m going to go ahead and stay at the homestead for this one. Looks like at this point we will most likely just see very strong winds. I’m giving myself until the update tomorrow morning to change my decision.
Same

Am I the only one who is really struggling to imagine what this looks like?

Just wonderful. Downpours today right before a fricking hurricane hits. As if we needed more rain to saturate the ground.
