Really splitting hairs here but this is the past to present GFS runs. Quicker ejection to the east.

From a Strom chaser's

bomb's away…. #Ida will be a hurricane much sooner than forecast. This is a really bad sign that it’s strengthening as we approach diurnal minimum. Chances of a category 4+ type storm increasing, IMO…

12z GFS wind gusts.

Rain totals aren’t quite as daunting though.

I am really worried about the power outages. I am stunned you guys apparently have had more rain or just more than average than we have had in mobile since it rained damn near every day for 3 months but obviously your ground is saturated.
That means more trees are going to fall as ground is “soft” In the areas that have 100 mile winds from one direction for hours then 100 mile winds from different direction they are really going to fall. (Those shitty tall pines are going to be like match sticks. Man I hate those things in hurricanes since Fredrick. I was raking and picking up that shite for weeks)

So they are going to block roads, and take out power lines everywhere. The slower it moves the worst. The lack of prep time, and covid issues, (there are no power trucks lining up right now to help). California can’t send shite, Florida is covid central, etc. I fear some areas are going to be without power for weeks maybe even months.
I hope I am wrong about this, but if you live way down a bunch of little roads surrounded by Pune frees in small towns or rural areas you really need to have enough supplies to make it a few weeks or get out.

Again, I hope I am wrong but food for thought. This ain’t normal times.

At one point will the NHC updates become more frequent?

For anyone who doesn't follow Philippe Papin, you should. He is one of the best at providing a current understanding of what is going on with any particular storm. He's good and now works with the NHC.

Costco in BR is nuts but they’re handling it well from a check out perspective. I wouldn’t bother with gas unless you just hate yourself

Nope, the cone is a set amount of miles wide depending on how many hours away it is. Has nothing to do with certainty.

Its 1 standard deviation of the error in track for the last five years. The cone aint small because of the relative certainty in track.

It’s also “small” because the forward speed makes the center fixes farther away, hence a smaller angle, but the cone at 24, 48, 72, etc hours is as wide as it was last year.
