Whats up with the blob behind it? Could it develop into its own system?

nah, it's just a really persistent feeder band. it'll probably stick around until after the island landfall at least.

This is going to be really bad for Haiti... Hopefully, the system weakens as it moves north or slides west closer to Jamaica putting the most intense portion of the storm over the open water between the two.

Seems like its abnormally slow too so they'll take a prolonged hit.

Very true. I saw an aerial photo of the Dominican border once.

Very stark difference.

If that projection held Myrtle Beach to Wilmington would be wiped out.

Locked down here on GTMO...still sunny and beautiful out. Really makes you feel bad for the folks in the days before satellites and radar because I would have no idea this thing was coming otherwise...

What kind of storm shelter is available? Do you have some military type bunker to get into. A direct hit by a Cat 4 is very possible for you there.

I was just thinking about where I would want to go if I was essential and remained there. There are bunkers but wouldn't the "highest point" @ GTMO be the safest place for all? The big ears hill?

I can't comment on the other stuff, but they have us in COR 3 right now, will stop all exterior movement 24 hours from landfall. Right now they are going to have us shelter in the school and gym and a couple other areas. From what I have heard they have never had anything greater than a 2 hit, and don't even have plans for a major hurricane...as crazy as that sounds.

I think I am more concerned about mudslides, these hills are just moon dust and makes me nervous.

Many thanks! I will let y'all know what the latest update for us is, should have more info in a couple hours. The families flew last night, there was talk of C-130s doing laps between here and Pensacola to evacuate all personnel, but it got shut down. Probably not good optics for the international stage...
