This is a ridiculous statement. If it wasn’t for a good guy with a gun, the Texas church shooting a few months ago would’ve been much worse

Jeez, maybe I'm late. But I just read somewhere that they said the shooting lasted for only 5 minutes. That is crazy to me. In my head that seems like a short amount of time, but in reality when dealing with a crazed gunman, that probably feels like it lasted over an hour.

I really get the feeling that that animal didnt truly realize what he was doing. He said he wanted to be a school shooter, so he thought "what the heck, why not make today the day. I wonder what would happen" Its like he was just doing things without recognizing this was real life, and not his dreams or a video game. Likely after hearing the screams and seeing the bodies drop everywhere, its like he realized "o crap Im killing people right now, the cops are gonna kill me". So he literally dropped his things and ran out the door. The very fact that he just casually walked down the street to Subway and Mcdonalds shows me he didnt fully think things through. He didnt off himself like some of the other psycopaths do. And He really made no attempts to make an escape at all.

All this just makes me sick to my freaking stomach.

Serious question...was there anybody left in the church for that guy to shoot? They found 15 empty magazines.

the shooter was engaged by the civilian as he was leaving the church. So i guess what I'm trying to say is that the church shooting couldn't have been much worse.

So he was probably nothing more than a glorified mall cop?

He also served in the military, he told the sheriff's office. Peterson, who attended Florida International University, was largely lauded for his performance on the job, including garnering two deputy of the year nominations in recent years, the personnel records show.

Seems like he had the experience to do the job

I’ve said it before and no one payed attention. Most of your SROs are hired for that position because they just need a warm body there. Many places require a college degree to be an SRO because the school uses them a substitute teacher. It’s more like having someone with a degree to be on school staff that also has a gun and is commissioned.

It’s also a place for people on light duty, near retirement, etc.

You won’t find and SRO many places that’s a fit, young, ready to meet danger head on guys standing around guarding kids. Even though it’s a great place to meet all the hot single moms, it’s not a position of priority for most departments

Ronald Reagan was shot while surrounded secret service agents, since they were unable to protect him in that one situation should secret service protection be ended? One school cop is not reflective of the abilities of every teacher in the nation, and Fixing the issue is a unrealistic expectation, the goal is to improve the odds.

X’s a billion! He had plans to go to another church.

Also, I understand if a regular person was too afraid to act in that situation.. but not an officer. You know what you are signing up for.. and it’s your job.. you are taking the position away from someone else who might actually be of use in that situation. Just ridiculous to not take action there.

i am not going to pass judgement on this man. I have no clue what his intentions were. He had no idea if one shooter or 4. He may have very well been at one part of the school guarding kids there. If he ran and hid behind the bushes thats another story, but i have no clue what happened and am not about to pass judgement on a man in this situation.

I have already said this to no avail, it has not been investigated, everything we know is hearsay, even the sheriff admitted repeating things he heard that later proved to be false.

Looks pretty investigated to me:

quote:

"Scott Peterson was absolutely on campus through this entire event," Israel said. "He was armed, he was in uniform. After seeing video, witness statements, and Scott Peterson's very own statement, I decided this morning to suspend Scott Peterson without pay pending an internal investigation. As is his right, Scott Peterson chose to resign."

Israel claimed that Peterson "clearly" knew there was a shooting, and was seen doing "nothing" on video. Israel added that there were no known issues with communication.

Peterson will be eligible for retirement following his resignation.

An internal investigation is procedure before you can officially fire someone. If witness statements, video footage and the cop's own statement isn't enough for you to understand how this conclusion was reached, then you are one dumb motherfricker.

If you are going to have an armed guard, get one with a desire to help should it be needed.

And this is why arming teachers(which is so ducking stupid in many ways) isn't he answer.

When someone is shooting an AR 15 at people, it takes a special person to be able to keep calm and shoot back. This trained officer of many years couldn't manage to do
It, but people think teachers will More often than not, them having a gun would be a net negative

shite gets real. Most people fall back on their training. Makes me wonder what in the hell is going on at that sheriff's dept.

I doubt it. I'm sure shooters agenda changes very quickly once someone shoots back which changes the game.

Shooting back is the only answer. Hiding and waiting for it to be over does nothing. At least a horrified teacher locked in a room with her students can shoot back if he kicks open the door and starts blasting. Guaranteed to work? Absolutely not. Better chance of working than doing nothing? Obviously. If you don't shoot back, he does what he wants until he runs out of bullets.

I went to a pretty big 5A school and our rent a cop seemed like a joke. If he was a badass dude he did a real good job of hiding it.
