If someone is within five years of retirement and they are losing significant money in their account, they deserve all of their misery

That can be argued, imo.

I'm not going to post anything more detailed, but if I explained it to you, you'd understand why. He can't move anything around, at least not the largest portion of it.

In June 2015, I invested $650,000 in the equities market, a portfolio created for me by CSSC, INC. OF TROY, MICHIGAN, an investment advisory firm.

Six weeks later, I had LOST $150,000, enough to buy my dream car, a 2008 Bentley Continental, plus several ounces of cocaine and a couple weeks' worth of prime escort service.

Moral of the story:
• Do not play the stock market, especially through CSSC, INC. OF TROY MICHIGAN.
• Instead, spend your capital on fancy cars, hookers and blow. You will live--and die--a much happier man.

He's right. Stock investors hate uncertainty and an open presidential election is uncertainty. With an incumbent there's a little less because you can bet on how much trouble he's in.

Yes I hate when irrational people feel uncertain and unload good companies and then their herd mentality takes over and drives the price down for me.

Election years are actually good for the market.
Yeah, 2000 and 2008 were real bull markets.

I will go back from 1980. There were 9 elections and in those years 7 of them were positive for a cumulative return of 65%. The only two years that were negative were 2008 (financial crisis) and 2000 (Y2K). That is pretty solid returns.

cumulative return
What?

There were more up years than down, but 2008's 37% plunge doesn't fill me with the desire to BUY BUY BUY! just because it's an election year.

If you want a magic formula, 2nd years of presidential terms have seen the best gains.

It's a lot more than China. This is the culmination of incompetence by our government at multiple levels.

The federal reserve did nothing but kick the can down the road with their QE program. This will be a disaster.
