Great metaphor. Musk has quite literally propelled the world with his innovations that are seemingly out of reach when he first states his outlandish goals.
Is he late in executing most of them? Yes. Does he eventually accomplish the outlandish goals he sets out to do? Most of the time yes.
People who bitch about a guy who puts billions of his own capital at risk while attempting the change the world for the better need to get a life.
With all of that said, I would not want to work for him. He is evidently quite a dick of a boss.

GTFO with the "tax dollar" argument. The guy has forced an entire industry to reevaluate the use of technology, customer experience, and sustainability as an entry into a well-established, high barrier to entry industry.
