Side note: why do sites like the NY Times and WaPo still demand payment to read articles? Most of the actual news articles (not opinion or editorial crap) can easily be found on non-pay sites.

They can... it's just sometimes that's the issue.

This is one of the key reasons why I reject the Taliban-esque rush to destroy, remove, hide, obfuscate our history.

Let's put things in context and not make fools out of ourselves.

you think the kind of people that go around burning statues has any sort of knowledge on military uniform history? I’d bet that most of them couldn’t tell you shite about Robert Lee other than accusing him of being a racist

Yeah, maybe people will take a minute to learn how awesome the 101st Airborne was in WWII.
And afterwards too.

This Division did OK too...

I can't decide if I think this is the dumbest part or that they tried to "torch" a statue. Did they think this figure made of stone was just gonna light up like a fricking scarecrow lol?

Maybe it was a case of mistaken identity at all. Maybe they went out on a mission to destroy statues of all white men.

He probably said something mean to someone at some point in his life so I'm sure it was warranted.

There's no underestimating the sheer stupidity of some people. That statue in NO way remotely resembles a likeness of R.E.Lee, but there are those who are too stupid to know what happened in 1980, so how does one expect them to know what went on in the mid 1800's.
