I’m glad I was the youngest.

I was in gifted classes and had straight As, scored high on the SAT. Had college credit from AP courses, moved into the dorms at 17.

My mom basically would say we couldn’t do shite until our hw was done. Maybe be a better parent?

that is exactly it

It’s ok to admit it. The boys who are super duper smart - are smart regardless of what age they are or when they started school. Same thing with the girls.

Which part? Anyone with young kids or anyone who remembers their teenage years can tell you that boys are immature compared to their female peers. Girls are not kicking boys’ asses in school because they are smarter. They have the emotional regulation needed to do the work at an earlier age.

Some of them are kicking arse because they are on legal meth.

This makes me think about the dad in Varsity Blues. "8th grade isn't so bad"

Based on your grammar your son was fricked no matter when he started school.

They will crush it in sports until they reach HS and everyone else catches up. I see this all the time.

Agee my son was either going to be the oldest or youngest. I was the youngest in my year. Another year and I could have probably had real college offers to play football instead of junior colleges and small colleges

In the book Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell he talks about how a significant portion of NHL players were born in August and September, saying that being more mature, even if it’s only a few months, helped the older kids create a mindset for success. If I ever have a boy I’m holding him back just for that.

Where is the egregious grammar error? Should it be later? Break out the rule, Hoss, because I’m not 100% sure that’s incorrect. It might be. I used to be great at grammar, but I’ve been out of school for a while. Nobody gives a shite about that stuff in the corporate world unless your grammar is truly terrible.

My dad was a college baseball coach and held me back in kindergarten so I could be older my senior year of HS sports. I was 19 when I graduated and played D1 baseball. No way that happens if he didn’t hold me back so, it worked for me.

I entered school 1.5 years early. I wished I started at the proper age or even a little late.

Yes, I thought of this book when I read the thread title.

Yeah... Science!

Our local school system (West Feliciana) pressures parents to start their kids early. It's asinine. So many boys graduating here and going off to college at 17. If at all.

Well, I know it’s not 100% me as a parent because I have other kids who don’t get in trouble. Honestly, I should have left the example of my son off this post. When I say he’s being a dickhead, I mean that he’s talking in class and cutting up for attention. He’s not directly disrespectful to his teachers.

First and foremost I wanna let ya know that my comment was in humble intent. But I totally understand your point. I have six monsters. Five and one between two gals. Five are from a marriage and the last is from a fkn hometown fling. Shm! One of my daughters ranked giraffe pssy high academically in GA and TX systems but it didn’t reflect cause she was above her class and bored most of the time so she started clowning and slipping in school. She would finish alot of homework in class and that created a problem in structure. Fixed that shyt by putting more on her plate! Story moral is don’t restrict……give more responsibility! You know, like slave driving employers do

Your son isn't going to be in the NFL/NBA/MLB

If they are academically AND socially ready, start them for age appropriate school

Like many others who have posted here, I was one of the youngest in my class throughout elementary and high school. Didn't turn 18 until right after starting college. Besides the driver's license and drinking age thing didn't bother me a bit. Sure helped after med school and residency I have an extra year on most everyone else.

An additional year of pre-k can be very helpful for kids with developmental delays. I wouldn't make the decision to do the extra year just because the child is a boy or has a fall birthday though.

My birthday is right before the Sept 1 cut off in GA and so my parents decided to send my to kindergarten the next year at age 6.

I have no regrets. I was bigger and smarter than everyone in my class and I could drive as a sophomore.
