He doesn’t want to work at a place filled with squatters.

Not all Starbucks are the same. I'm sure there is more of a premium on space in Philly than there is in Baton Rouge. I don't see what is so hard to get about this story other than private property rights apparently come after Muh fee fees.

Well I can guarantee you none of them are set up for people to come and go as they please without anyone ever buying anything
I am kind of shocked at them amount of people I have seen in these threads that are like “I’ve done this before and never gotten arrested, it must be ok”. I’ve certainly been to a Starbucks that I was going to use the bathroom and there was a code to get in. The cops were not called that day. I bought something and got the code.

whether or not the practice is acceptable at other SB is irrelevant

That's fine. But as someone said on the previous page. If the management actually had a problem with the neighborhood that they were in or the fact that numerous ppl were coming in without ordering anything. They could have made a public notice about the issue.

They could have.
Or they could just tell people.
Either way should be effective for non assholes.

Easy way for the Starbucks CEO to get on the good side of black ppl. Release a video saying "FREE MEEK MILL".
This story disappears.

If the manager has been let go and the others ordered to undergo new training it's safe to say they fricked up by calling the cops on these young men.

I hate the polarization on these stupid racial outrage stories.
But I can't find any basis for criticizing Starbucks here. Anyone want to explain?

This situation is pathetic. What the hell are the employees supposed to do if the company has rules, and people aren’t following them and are being abrasive.
The rules only apply to non-minorities. Well, actually, some minorities too. But the ones they apply to aren’t going to behave like heathens anyway.
Funny how that works. The ones that cause the problems are the ones who you can’t apply the rules to because of their behavior when the rules are applied.

My guess is the location has had major problems with squatters refusing to buy anything while taking up tables and using the bathrooms.
It falls into the category of “If there’s a rule, there’s probably some a-hole who caused it to be written.” Like the codes of conduct and dress code at the bars on Third Street in BR.
Typically in urban, densely-populated areas such as where this Starbucks is, many store bathrooms have a keypad and require a code to get in. The code is usually printed on the receipt to verify you're a purchasing customer.
I work in one of these areas and most of the delis/coffee shops have such policies. Many times, I have seen random people just walk in and ask a worker for the code. Almost always, the worker will ask if they bought anything and reject them if they hadn't. This has even happened to me.
A friend of mine once walked into a small bathroom at some shop in downtown DC and witnessed a fully-naked homeless man bathing himself with sink water and hand soap.

She can probably just go around the corner and find some other coffee shop looking to hire a manager.

Actually when I was there it applied to everyone. Rittenhouse square does have a profiling problem though.

Christian Hayden, 30, recalled a security guard searching his bags as he left a nearby Barnes & Noble. The guard found his copy of Ta-Nehisi Coates’s memoir “The Beautiful Struggle,” and would not let him leave until the staff had checked the shelves to make sure no copy had been stolen.
Trevor Johnson, 27, a bike courier, recalled being arrested in the square four years ago after an officer asked him to turn off his music and he got up to walk away.

And earlier this year, Michele Bradshaw, 49, said she left a Nordstrom Rack not far from the Starbucks after she noticed a security guard following her through the aisles of clothing.
In fact, statistics show that Rittenhouse Square, with its hotels, boutique museums and upscale shops, has the highest racial disparity in the city when it comes to police pedestrian stops. Although black people account for just 3 percent of the residents in that police subdistrict, they made up two-thirds of the people stopped by the police in the first half of 2017, according to figures collected by the American Civil Liberties Union.
“It is clear that African-Americans are not welcomed in that part of the neighborhood, period,” said Jordan A. Harris, a representative in the state house and chairman of the state’s legislative black caucus.

Where they fricked up was giving any concession to these BLM terrorists and Psycho SJWs.
Tell them “No” and bop them on the nose with a rolled up newspaper and they go away.

Overly dramatic?
It’s a simple issue that I have a simple stance on. Being oblivious to a rule is not an excuse for breaking it. Sorry if you perceive that as dramatic

All of the facts of this story say otherwise.
This simply shouldn’t have been a big deal. Each side stood their ground ina seemingly calm way and the cops had to intervene. It is what they are there for.

"unconscious bias" is such bullshite
Not that it doesn't exist...but you can't prove when someone does something because of an "unconscious bias."
Essentially it's now a good way for them to claim racism forever in all situations.

Do you believe in private property rights ?
Posted on 4/18/18 at 9:25 am to teke184
I think it simply boils down to there being a policy in place that they can't possibly fairly enforce. She called the cops because they refused to buy something. How many individuals do you think have sat in that same Starbucks location and violated that policy without any consequence? Probably a shite ton. If you're going to have a policy like this then from a legal and ethical standpoint you better make sure you're being rigid as hell about it across the board with every single individual that walks into your establishment.
