FRESNO, Calif. (WSYX/WTTE) – A bystander who stopped a knife-wielding man during an attempted robbery could be in legal trouble. According to KSEE, 30-year-old Ryan Flores, who's been charged with attempted robbery for the July holdup of a Starbucks, plans on suing 58-year-old Cregg Jerri, the customer who stopped him, according to surveillance video. Police said Flores, disguised in a Transformers mask, used a fake gun, then a knife, demanding money from the barista before Jerri hit him with a chair and fought the suspect. Investigators said Jerri was stabbed in the neck during the struggle, but managed to wrestle away the knife and stab Flores several times. The police chief called Jerri a hero. The suspect's mother, who doesn't condone what Flores allegedly did, says her son is a victim of excessive force. “He has 17 total stab wounds, lacerations and defensive wounds,” she told KSEE. "To say that Cregg Jerri is going to be sued for intervening in an armed robbery and being stabbed in the neck, that is ludicrous," said Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer.

I know I say I never want to have to use a firearm in a defensive situation, but I would legitimately smile as his brains leaked from his eye socket.

So, just one bullet would have been better.

It's California. The good Samaritan will probably go to jail for the armed robbery and for intervening.

Reminds me of the story when the burglar broke in this house, took the TV off the stand and put it on the floor to take out and then tripped over it and won a judgement.

I was certain there was more to that story to render that verdict, nope.

Would never have happened had you done a better job of teaching your dumbass son not to commit armed robbery.

On of my friends brother in law is a VP at Starbucks. I'm gonna get his number and ask him if StarBucks plans on helping this guy with the cost of his defense should this lawsuit actually take place.

Probably not. I'm sure their official position is to not encourage this and to just give in to whomever is robbing the place and let the police deal with it.

However, this guys GoFundMe would do quite well
