What I think was an infected follicle turned into a full on infection on my knee with massive swelling and an abscess that formed rapidly over the weekend. Went to urgent care earlier today and got prescribed clindamycin and Norco but they didn’t test for the strain. Didn’t realize staph infections would be this painful. Already went through a bout of fever, aches, and chills earlier too.

Y’all got any experience with this shite and what to expect?

clindamycin is notorious for causing C Diff infections, happened to me at 17yo from that fricking demon antibiotic and took multiple rounds of one antibiotic until they switched me to vancomycin (expensive AF) to clear it up, do whatever you can to help your gut bacteria with yogurt or other probiotics

MRSA (staph) is nothing to play around with.In my ICU days we got a good many patients in septic shock.I don’t remember any actually dying but it would be touch and go for a few days.IV antibiotics, drugs and I V fluids to maintain their BP.

Keep it clean and covered, so you don't spread it. Wash your sheets. Keep washing your hands. Don't drain the abscess. If it pops on its own, wash it out thoroughly and lightly pack it with sterile gauze. Let it drain. Keep changing the dressings at least once a day until it heals.

Don't use alcohol on it or peroxide. Use betadine if you need to clean the area. But mostly just keep it clean and dry.

Take all of the antibiotics, even if it goes away.

If left unchecked they can get bad.

Switch to Dial soap because that shite kills anything.

We (including you) all have staph bacteria in our nose and on our butthole.

Can’t stress this enough.

I had it in my armpit freshman year of college. The pain was nothing short of miserable. The relief I had when the doctor initially lanced it was heavenly… then he drained it. That was not pleasant.

Keep it clean and dry or you’re in for a world of hurt.

If it’s not improving fairly quickly on the clindamycin then it needs to be drained. The fact that you had fever is a little concerning.

I've ended up in the ER twice because of staph. I'm at the point now where I call my doctor anytime I have something that might be. It's best to catch it early. The mildest thing I've been on that works well is Duricef.

Look up the Hibiclens regimen to kill the colonies on your skin. I also swab my nose with mupiricin daily.

If you think you have one go to the doc right away.

I had one on my forearm that didn't respond to antibiotics. I was working on my fourwheeler and when the nut broke I slammed my forearm on the frame. The pain was so bad it made me black out. Ended up on the IV drip and couldn't shite right for 6 months because of how bad the antibiotics messed me up. It's been about a year since I've had one due to staying vigilant with swabbing my nose and regularly using hibiclens.

I shower 2 to 3 times a day with antibacterial soap. If I go camping I bring hibiclens wipes. I normally get them when I'm hunting for a few days and don't have access to a shower.

Nope.

I think I actually got it from being inside of OLOL but I didn’t deduce that until I got back from urgent care. I read up on the antibiotic and it said it should cover MRSA. He did mention that any longer left untreated and I would’ve been getting close to having to be on an IV so I think I caught it before it caused too much damage.

Thanks for all the replies.

Ask them for a script of mupirocin to keep for preventing future infections. It’s an ointment that’s much stronger than neosporin.
