the people that own the motel actually own a nice chunk of land that goes much further back from the actual hotel. I still have no idea why they continue to run the motel, it can't really be that much more profitable than selling the land

about once a week whole families would get evicted out of there. there was once two fatties fricking in the bushes when i got home one night. i guess they couldn't even afford the motel. they definitely sell dope out of the place. rap battles were a regular thing.

Anybody know why it's pronounced like that? Somebody's name?

If I remember correctly was it awhile back that a relative of the hotel owner was defending the place?

Owners daughter got on social media (can’t remember if she made it to the OT or not) and was saying how it is a “nice, family owned business” and implied that those criticizing it were just racists.

Does it bother anyone that "Staring" is mispronounced? The way people say it, it should be spelled "Starring"

No. It's been discussed before and mentioned in various BR publications.

Staring is named for the Stahring Family who had land/farms in the area. They dropped the H from their family name.
More ya know.

highland road runs along a natural levee that borders the rivers old floodplain, hence the "high land"

Yes, she was saying that her parents run the place and that the motel has more going for it than a place for drug deals and hookers

Apparently it’s also a place for stabbings

Is that a joke? Highland is named from Dutch Highlands when they settled early 1700s. What is notable about everything north/east of Highland Road about Staring to CCL? IT DIDN'T FLOOD when the river flooded. SO their houses and shite were put up there on the HIGHLANDS while their plantations/farms stretched from the lowland to the river.

One of my cousins was murdered and dumped behind it in 1983. That "motel" has been a nefarious and blighted piece of shite now for generations. It's still almost unfathomable to drive past it and see it still exists all these decades later.

It made the name less obviously German. After WW1, Germans weren't so well liked anymore. German as a spoken language in Louisiana disappeared virtually overnight and names were changed as Germans living here who really wanted to be American tried to assimilate more and become less German to avoid the backlash due to what was happening in Europe.

Who was that? I'm from the area and family been there since 60s when those neighborhoods were built out down Perkins Road. My mom will remember this murder for sure.

Wow. Isn't the old Staring Fish & Game Club Luxury Hotel?

Times have changed.
