While I am wary of police as a group and a militarized force, the individuals aren't any more evil than a normal person. They go to work like normal and the cops I know never want to be involved in anything even close to violence. Sitting in the car all day and looking for missing kids is a good day for the ones I know.

I don't believe any individual police officers go into a Walmart with the intent of shooting someone. If they are involved, they make a decision to save their lives or eliminate a threat. One of the cops I know was recently involved in a shooting, and it really messed with his head.

Hell, there was a police shooting behind my mother's house a month or so ago and she said the cop wouldn't move for like 45 minutes and was in shock.

I tend to believe they're justified in most cases. I'm not saying they don't take some of the experiences they have with certain groups and act differently with certain people (generally minorities of gang/thug culture,) but I can't see myself doing any different if I was dealing with shite every day.

What scares me is police as a group. I don't like the us versus them mob-like mentality that happens in situations like Ferguson or Boston after the bombings. That's my big fear/issue with police and what really needs to be addressed through training.

O'Mara and another attorney on CNN starting to shift their opinions in favor of the cop...

Both emphasized that a person can cover 20 feet in 2 seconds and if Brown turned and charged the officer, those 5 shots would not be out of place... The other guy also talked about how the witnesses likely would not have seen the whole thing, especially the girl since she admitted she was grabbing for her phone to record. He also made a point about the single shot in the forearm and how its been suggested it could be from hands up, but he also shows if someone is running forward and swinging their arms, that part of the arm is exposed in the exact same way.

I agree. But I think there's a growing tendency to do this on a daily basis and divide everyone they come in contact with into an "us" or "them" category.

I agree. But I think that just as we have come to "expect" more violence (in that we see it on TV sensationalized) and we feel like we're living in a more violent society (even as violent crime is dropping), I think the police have those same tendencies. So, when they get a call saying there's a guy in WalMart brandishing a gun, their first instinct is "OMG, it is happening here." This leads to the escalation of a non-violent incident to lethal by perception.
