I have a feeling Ferguson PD will be dismantled at the end of this. There is absolutely NO WAY that they will be able to effectively police the area thanks to the way the chief has acted.
The only way I think the department stays in tact is if the State Trooper running things right now takes over as Chief.

I said it yesterday and I will say it again. The Ferguson PD Chief is way out of his depth and is absolutely making things worse. He needs to go.
But the fact that the Highway Patrol Captains feel good policing didn't work out is kind of funny. I think it is horrible that he ordered his guys to back off when the looting started and just let it happen. The person who really got screwed here is the store owner. He got robbed and now he got looted. Sucks to be him.

COMPLETELY different situation. His tactics of not militarizing the regular protests has kept things relatively peaceful for the past two days.
People knew that shite was going to happen last night thanks to how the Chief released info and insinuated Brown was responsible for his own death... Even though he tried to play it off.
I'd like to know who made the call not to dispatch officers, not militarized vehicle, to the stores that were being looted?
Posted on 8/16/14 at 7:55 am to Lsut81
The thugs and looters were sent a very clear message last night by the inaction on behalf of police. They now have free reign of Ferguson and can operate with impunity. Thugs will come from far and wide to get their piece of the pie in the Great 2014 Loot Off Games. May the odds be ever in your favor.

Yep, this will only expand it, not contract the violence and thuggery.
So, a young man robs a store, and assaults the owner. Later gets killed, and a week later they are still protesting and looting. And the store owner, who was a victim, is now a target. Geez, this country is sad.

Apparently, Ferguson police told the local store owners to "Deal with it" that they weren't responding to calls about looters....
Basically, it wasn't their problem.
This is what I'm so confused about. The police showed up with tanks, tear gas, rubber bullets and all last night and went directly to where protesters were assembled and remained there even when the looting began? Why didn't they assemble at the businesses and send a clear message that looting would not be tolerated.
I think they get off on standing around looking intimidating moreso than actually having to engage and put themselves on the line
*SN there were patrol cars at Wal Mart so apparently there are some bussinesses that they responded too

The store owner should have camped out armed to the teeth. Mow them frickers down. Each and every one looking to harm the place. Send the message back.

Have you been following this story at all? State Police took over 2 days ago. They thought they had it under control. And the police did not victimize Brown. The media did. Multiple news outlets filed Freedom of Information request and they had to release it. The media chose to show it on TV which reignited things. Then the media had the freaking gall to call out the police on releasing the video.
So the media caused this? I must have missed the part where they mowed down a guy with his hands up.
So much fail...

Please tell me you don't believe the story of what happened begins and ends there.

Of course not. But to absolve the police and blame the media is inexcusable.
Tell me what did the reporters from WashPo and HuffPo do to get arrested? They simply filmed what the cops were doing. To me that tells the whole story. The Ferguson police don't want anyone watching, and want to stay in total control.
It's a sad world out there. Our children are screwed.

I don't think there is any question that the robbery report and video are relevant as an explanation of the circumstances and as rebuttal to the "he's a good boy, no way he would attack the officer" stories BUT the way/time it was released was a mistake. They dropped it as a bombshell and without explanation. If the Chief had gotten up and said "here is some information that has been requested by the media and here is what it shows... This is why this information is relevant... We have already spoken to the family and their attorney, they are aware we are releasing this..." It would have been better received.
This entire situation is an enormous PR fail. It is as if this Department has never done a news conference or dealt with the media. It's not a 5 man department in bumfrick Egypt. You would think someone there has had some training or experience in this type of stuff.

There was no reason to release the surveillance tape at the same time. He claims he did it because of potential FOIA lawsuits, yet he held the officers name for 6 days even though there were potential FOIA lawsuits.
He should have released the officers name by itself and saved this video for another release or a subtle release.

No they are not. And if they were it would have about .000000001% weight attributed to the Ferguson Police incompetence, and more to do with a culture of a thug shoving a store owner, intimidating him, and walking out with stolen goods. Then an entire community that fails to see that of all the mistakes made, only 1 of many that led up to this tragedy are on behalf of the policeman.

All I have read are people blaming the police or media for the looting last night. WTF is wrong with y'all. How about placing blame on the ones who couldn't remain civil?
This entire week people have complained about the police not releasing information. Now it's that they did release the information. How rational is it for people to loot the store that MB robbed?
Everyone bitched about the huge police presence and the police scaled it down...now people are bitching that the police didn't stop the looters.
At some point the blame needs to be directed at the ones doing the looting...quit excusing it.

Why? There is a threat to the officer that is real, how can someone not see that there is nothing to gain by releasing the name. What is the name so important? He hasn't been charged of a crime.

This is the root problem. There is a vocal minority of the "community" that is incapable of any accoutabilty whatsoever. They are always the victim.
Michael Brown gets shot by white cop? Protest white cop.
Stores get looted? Jusitified way to show anger.
Protests get unruly Wednesday night? Blame the militarized police who intimidated protesters into breaking the law.
Protests get violent Friday night? Blame the police chief for his poor handling of the situation.
Here is a novel idea for the folks of Ferguson, MO and a few of you in this thread:
Grow the frick up and be accoutable for your own actions.

Putting the police department in direct line of the looters is asking for trouble..the same ones that want them there are the same ones that would shout from the highest treetop of the injustice as soon as a looter was shot.
Unfortunately the police acted so poorly with the protests that they can't chance another incident.
Police shoots looter....you think the communities would calm down?

Thank god for you and slackster...finally some common sense in this thread
Yeh imagine the shite storm if the police had stepped in last night. People would have been hurt.
