so we pull our kids out of catholic school. Then were do we send them? I live in the Lafayette area. My kids go to catholic schools in the berry. The diocese of Lft follows the local school boards during emergency times. If the state mandates that public schools shut down, or if the individual parish school boards shut down, I fully expect the diocese to follow.

Well I haven't thought about that. As we've done every year, we have already paid tuition and enrolled our kids at the private schools. I am not sure about what the process is for switching schools like that in the midst of a shutdown of this nature.

Because the plan was to use gyms for spacing bc you can't get 6 ft spacing in classrooms, BESE said "maximum extent" was good enough and some people don't find that safe.
A community center where you can space out makes sense in that context, but I think that's not a good idea either

All I asked was if anyone knew some public school teachers from lower income inner-city communities because I was curious to what their response was. I specifically asked a guy who posted "all my teachers I know" where those people teach.

Did you do your beta in a place like St.Landry? Did you do it with kids from Eunice High? Opelousas High? Or was this with Sacred Heart and St.John kids? What were the socio-economic conditions of the subjects....St.Landry is largely rural and extremely poor. Forget general infrastructure like network connectivity and 5G. How will you get laptops to all the kids? How will you teach them to use Zoom....or are they going to sluff it off to Moodle modules? What about the individual homes? Will the router and modem capacity be just minimal or will there need to be more capacity. What about those areas where broadband is limited and 5G service from towers is spotty? How will the students be accountable....how will the teachers? I think I can be safe in saying that the brain trust at the school board there has not really even begun to think out the logistics.....they seldom do.
I still maintain that these kids NEED to be in the classroom and remte online model is given to fraud.

Why do we need teachers at every school if the kids are going to attend school online ?
It's actually counter intuitive to have more than one instructor teaching a subject if everyone attends school the same way. Record the lesson, everybody gets the same instruction. You need one teacher per subject for the entire district/state/country/language.

and based on your posting history, i don't think you and i disagree on much. i was just posting my opinions on the matter and made you the target. i do have a lot of knowledge about the teaching industry (inner city and suburb) as my wife is a teacher and so was my mother.
we're cool, except i think you should either go for a name change or lean in on Brees being a cuck. (not saying you are, but he certainly is)

BUT - i do know some inner city teachers and there are a good portion of them silently sitting there thinking the world has gone mad and will likely reevaluate their choice in profession after all of this.

Private schools are charging thousands, it's worth researching other options if there was a possibility that my kid would be sitting home learning either way.

Schools will shut down every flu season from now on if we start having to consider the risk undergone by elderly teachers mixing with children. Yes, this appears to be marginally more deadly than the regular flu for at-risk populations, but it's also much less likely to be transmitted by children than the regular flu is.
Not only that. We will have to consider the risk to children as well, and the flu is much more likely to make children sick than COVID is.
COVID-19 is just not a bad enough virus for us to complete abandon our prior way of living.
People are going to have to realize that.

as someone who's spouse is an employed teacher. let's do it.
survival of the fittest. lot of fat to be trimmed in the American education system. A LOT.
And as with all things, let mothafrickin' Capitalism work for you folks! Lazy arse teachers want pay raises and to sit at home with their 14 cats all day and 'teach' from their dining room table while our kids suffer? pull the kids out and pay for them to learn elsewhere. love it.
