Parents are provided with the treatment protocol before it begins. It is extremely detailed, along with whether or not it is a first time trial. You have to consent in triplicate or quadruple ate over the course of days. You are also provided with options.Every treatment has side effects, including mandatory vaccinations. Most recognized treatment protocols were developed or refined at St Jude.

Shriner's hospital is great as well.
Either one (Shriners or St.Jude) is money well donated.

Im going to raise at least $150,000 for St Jude this year. In 3 days I have almost 40 people coming to Memphis in December for Marathon weekend. We are pledging $100,000 just from that. I have 3 other big events scheduled this year that are going to be big. Heck I may hit $200,000. ????????

To the one downvoter? What got up your arse?
And cheers to St.Jude. They do the Lord's work.

I have a dear friend who has been there since last July. The stuff that family is going through is brutal. Tough to see but that why I dedicate myself to raise big money. I was doing it before but this just fuels my fire to do more.

I cannot think of any charity more worthy than St Jude. Helping poor little kids with cancer. Heartbreaking that kids even get cancer.
I get irrationally pissy when I hear of some big donation going towards a political cause, or something like “fighting hunger” in a place where 50% of people are obese.
And probably 82 cents of every dollar (or more) goes in the pocket of some charlatain.

I’ve had referrals( kids) die of cardiac toxicity from their regimen, that are 98% cure rates everywhere else with conventional chemo
Why are you referring patients for experimental treatments if the standard of care is a 98% success rate?
ETA: I see. You didn't know whether or not it would have an experimental portion and the financials led them to St. Jude.

Every pediatric cancer case should initially be treated at their home hospital, with the COG protocol. IMHO.

I would say that Ronald McDonald house is also a good cause. Not sure about percentage of donations, etc, but you would know the donations are going to meals and housing for kids

Been donating monthly to them for years. No regrets.

Not to sound like a cynical a-hole, but besides severe cases, shouldn’t patients be treated at their local major hospital? St Jude’s doesn’t have the “secret sauce” for childhood cancer. They do have a good PR department.

I agree. It is an excellent charity and one I contribute to regularly. I’ve known people who went to St. Jude, and it saved their lives. They never paid anything for their treatment.
My daughter also raises a lot of money for them through her sorority. She is one of the top fundraisers in her sorority, and her school’s chapter is consistently one of the top fund-raising chapters for St. Jude in the US. The philanthropy is what drew her to TriDelta.
My niece was treated for T-ALL at TCH, but some of the research done at St. Jude made those treatments possible. I just cannot say enough good things about St. Jude.

If anyone ever gets the chance, rum the St. Jude marathon or half marathon in Memphis. The route runs right threw the medical campus and the children and parents are there with signs and cheer you on. Never a dry eye!

I have almost 40 Heroes on my team for that this year in 3 days. We are bringing it in 2021!

Why not donate to CHOP in Philadelphia?

Those numbers are good to see. My personal favorite is one that’s in Mobile (and I assuming many other places), the L’Arche Foundation. They provide group homes to mentally/developmentally challenged adults. All the way from those who can have a job and a car and a checking account, but just need checking on and little help here and there to those who almost need help feeding themselves.
Years past, people like that lived with their parents and many were institutionalized after.
This place lets them have a loving, Christian home and as normal a life as they can manage. It’s not St Jude but it’s a damn good group of people. They have a yearly football kickoff dinner fund raiser here in Mobile and usually get several SEC coaches to speak. Most years one head coach and several assiifrom other programs. Paul Finebaum has been there most of the years they’ve had it.
