but these situations can actually end up in legal battles...

If they can't afford a house, they probably can't afford decent lawyers.

Mix ammonia and bleach in a 2 liter bottle. Cap it, bring it to the house with the squatters, then quickly uncap it and toss it in. Wear a respirator

Check the tax assessment records for the owner of record. Contact info should be included in the record.

Then help them board the windows and doors and with finding some pit bulls to turn out in the yard.

Should take care of any trespassers attempting to squat

Call the parish tax assessor and find the owner and contact information.

I'd make sure the family knows what's taking place.

This..

or you can look on the tax assessors website and find out who the owner is on your own

If they’ve been there less than a year, they have no right to possess. Call the cops

We had a situation like this 30 years ago when I was a kid. A bunch of neighborhood people just finally burned the house down. Not sure if the squatters were in there or not.

If you hadn't talked so much shite about Randy Smith's incompetence, maybe the STSO would have helped.

Claiming Adverse Possession in Louisiana takes 10 years and many other factors. Even after a year they wouldn't have any rights.

You're thinking of Nightmare on Elm Street.

It's around Head of Island and right on the water so I understand why it is desireable to live in.

I'm thinking some crime tape, a few dead body chalk outlines, and put some skunk scent in cans throughout it and other repulsive things to add to the ambiance. Nothing that would damage the home though.

Or we may write our own lease on it to someone (who will not live there) just to beat the squatters to the punch.

Did they all gather around it in robes and torches, board all the exits up, then set it aflame and listen to the screams? That’s how horror movies start.

We found homeless people living in a family property for a month before we found out. Luckily they left promptly once I got there and the police arrived. They moved in dressers, clothes, even a portrait of Black Jesus. Inside smelled like weed and cigarettes

After my grandmother died, my uncle's ex-girlfriend started staying in her house and we didn't know about it. My family tried to sell the house and she would not leave. They had to give her a 30 day eviction notice before they could evict her, even though she never paid any kind of rent, nor was given any permission.

That's not going to bother sovereign citizen squatters. You're going to have to step your game up

I've squatted in an empty house before, but don't think we're talking about the same thing.

Go in there with them inside and say you claimed it first. Call the cops, refuse to leave and claim the exact same thing the squatters are claiming in front of the cops. That’d be fricking awesome.

Maybe a couple guys at night with ski masks and baseball bats would change their mind.
