I flew Spirit round trip to San Diego once. Once. No more Spirit for me. But my experience helps me understand your comment.

I would pay a lot more for an airline with 75% of the people and a business casual dress code

That’s an airline I want to be flying on. I’m sure they’re keeping up with those maintenance schedules and hiring the best maintenance workers.

Who here flies Spirit and why? Every time I see or hear their name a negative story from an incident follows.

So they have first class or is it all coach?

I know people hate Spirit but no one else can take me to Cartagena or Cancun for $200 round trip.
I can be uncomfortable at those prices.

It's all coach but you can buy "the big front seat" and get a first class seat. But 4th class service. I like it because I'm cheap and don't need the stuff the legacy carriers offer.

These are the people who were not spanked as children.

I have never flown Spirit but one time I saw a woman wearing no shoes at spanking her kid or atleast I hope it was her kid at the gate for a Spirit flight at MSY.

When they offload at MSY it's definitely elite level people watching.

I had to snag a last minute Spirit flight from ATL to MSY one time. Glorious level of trashiness. Could be considered in flight entertainment.

All coach except for the first row and IIRC the emergency exit rows. Those seats are extra. When I flew Spirit I immediacy upgraded to the first row. It was worth it albeit still cramped seating. I think the upgrade was only $40.

interesting how experiences differ
we fly spirit out of MSY frequently…and if you were to pick an airport where a discount airline would feature the worst clientele I don’t think you’d be able to do worse than MSY.

spirit has direct flights to places we want to go, fares are cheaper, the planes are new and clean, there are several comfort upgrade options, and the crowd isn’t any worse than any other flight out of MSY. I find I actually prefer spirit over the majors and will choose it 100% of the time if there’s a direct flight.

For example…spirit has a biweekly nonstop MSY to CUN, 2 hr easy flight. It’s a no brainer. End of Feb we are flying to Nashville for a weekend, easy direct flight. Same for ORD (to St Aug) in April

At other airports that offer more direct flights this may not be the case, but for MSY spirit flights are often the best fare and nonstop

first several rows in coach they usually sell for a minor upgrade charge with the middle seat blocked off. Very comfortable and you’re at the front of the plane. Much better than exit row on SWA for example and almost always cheaper.

SWA is the airline I refuse to fly again. All the complaints about flight experience and trashy passengers made about spirit are more accurately direct at SWA

My wife flies SWA a lot for business because of the direct flight to the company headquarters. She would rather fly Delta but there are no direct flights. She complains about SWA all the time.

I have to admit, Delta is a lot more comfortable than SWA (and Spirit).

Flying frontier to Denver out of msy one time and a huge line built up of people trying to check their bags. No one was at the desk, not a single frontier employee in sight.

The two white lesbians behind me were getting upset and saying some pretty negative things about New Orleans.

I could fit a change of clothes in a backpack avoiding the carry on fee and the tickets were something stupid like 30-40$. I saved about ~100$ a ticket or so. I’m cheap so if i see that kind of price i always have trouble justifying a couple hundred dollars for an hour or 2 flight when I’m traveling alone.

Back when my Dad and I used to travel for football games, we would either fly Delta if we were going through ATL, or whatever the cheapest ticket my Dad could find. He was funny about certain things, like he always wanted to go to the lounge and get away from the crowds, or he would be insanely cheap and just find the cheapest direct flight he could. I think we flew Spirit a couple of times. Great people watching, and we got there and back safely.

I would never do it with the family.

But I would never take my wife and kids on Spirit. We flew Southwest when we went to Disney a couple of years ago, and that was fine since we got to board earlier since we had small kids. Flying somewhere solo, just give me a cheap fare and get me there.

I'll give an example.

It's cheap as frick and when I fly to go to an LSU game im gone for two nights. I just bring a backpack with me that goes under the seat.

I don't need all the extras to fly 1-2 hours.
