I’m an early twenties ptec baw 2-year associate degree in Industrial Technology. Currently working in operations for a major O&G/Chem plant (no F250/trucks nuts). I make six figures and am fine with my job at my current age but I don’t think rotating shift work is sustainable for the next 30 years.
Company offers an education program that pays 80% of tuition but the degree has to be of value to the company and pertain to the industry.
It would have to be fully online because of shift work but I think it would be manageable.
I’m in need of advice from some of you O&G/Chemical office baws. What would be my best route degree wise, I’m already in with a great company and have a great reputation amongst supervision.
I’m looking into a BA in Industrial Technology: Supply Chain, and a BA in Occupational Safety currently.
What say the OT, what are the best options

The only thing that would be better than my current job comparatively would be a doctor.

Food science instead of animal science.

I got a degree in Construftion Management. I’m currently a Commercial Project Manager but will be making a move to Superintendent in the next month. I’m in a similiar boat as you. Im in my mid 20s make 90k but don’t know if I can keep up this lifestyle for the next 30-40 years.
I wouldn’t suggest either tbh. Very stressful jobs with hours that can dominate your life at times.
If I could go back I would likely do something in healthcare for the job stability or do something that I truly loved and not worried about he money. I always wanted to coach Baseball but I was too worried about money. I grew up playing year round and turned down opportunities to ply at some very small schools. I never knew how much I would miss that game. I ended up marrying a physician so moneys not really an issue.
Not to mention it would be pretty sweet to have a teacher/coaches working hours
8-3, no weekends ever, 2 weeks for Christmas, 1 week for thanksgiving, every holiday off and 3 months for summer.
If I were giving you honest to god advice- think about what you truly want to do for the rest of your life. Save up, you’re in a great position if your in your early 20’s making 6 figures, and go for that degree.

If you think you are capable, I would go for a mechanical engineering degree. Don't think it is feasible online only but if you can make it work that would unlock plenty of doors in any O/G company, as well as outside of the oilfield.
Otherwise I would look toward a business degree. Again, opens up doors in your current company but also allows you to get out of the oil patch when the next 2016 comes crashing...
I don't know many safety hands that DON'T rotate who make 6 figures, so not sure what value you see out of safety. Same for supply chain. Seems like alot of work / time invested for pretty little return in my opinion.

of those 3, supply chain
you won't even be limited to industrial settings if you cut your teeth for a few years, and you can move to houston and make bank one day if you stay in oil

Get a degree in pig nosing and become a red hat

Become a public school teacher. We get 325 days of vacation, endless sick leave, and are paid $325,000/year in benefits. The actual work is just putting checkmarks on worksheets copied from a Common Core workbook.

meteorology.
I thought about it. I would have had to have gone out of state. But I pussied out.
