Subtle.

Save your money, start a business. You don’t need a damn degree to make money, just some money.

Serious answer here:

Finance/accounting/Business.

All are doable via internet, you just have to want to absorb the information. This could eventually bump you into management where you are or get you into other industries because it’s all about handling money and cash flow.

Any engineering or CM degree is also fine, if available all online, but you don’t sound like you want to stay in your industry forever.

Good luck.

Get a business/MBA, then start a company that provides services to your industry and make yourself rich instead of a bunch of other people rich.

It is customary to put a comma before the vocative, baw.

I'm going to pick A.

It all COULD be true. However, usually a certain amount of experience is required.

If it is true, then I really do need to go back to school.

True. The answer could be E. Either A or D, not enough information provided.

Software engineering. Except you don't really need a degree if you know how to program. I'd start as a hobby in high school.

I like the industry. Just want to be in an office and not a control room. And on a normal schedule

Don’t be jealous man. I work my arse of for those 6 figures.

I work every other weekend. And rotate 2 days, 2 off, 3 nights, 2 off, 2 days, 3 off, all 12 hours shifts.

Pair that with about 500 hrs of overtime and total compensation with bonus is around 120-130k

I turn 24 in February. Went straight from hs and took ptec at SCLTC.

I got hired on with a small chem plant as an operator in my last semester at 20 years old.

A year later got hired on with a major. Been with the major since and I’m now at top pay. $42 an hour, $43.50 on nights. 1.5x pay for the last 4 hours of every shift. Quarterly safety bonus and an 8-10% yearly bonus

But it’s honest not even worth it. People have no idea how hard swapping your sleep schedule from nights to days every 2 days is.

And when your off you spend most of your time resting to make up for the sleep you lost in transition.

Looks to me like you will be crying after you take a pay cut when they put you on salary instead of hourly.

He makes about 70k, but he works 1.5 jobs in hours to scratch out 6 figs. That's what every operator does, brag about how much money they make, but work every weekend and holiday to make it.

It would have to be fully online because of shift work but I think it would be manageable.

I would have suggested Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering but I do not know of any way to do that fully online (I may be wrong, I haven't looked at that).

Someone else suggested Software Engineering, which I know you can get online, though it is not actually an engineering degree, it is what was once called a software designer.

Honestly, you will take a pay cut if you plan to immediately transition to the other job. With software design and/or development, you may be able to pick up some contact side work to pad your resume and/or even launch that into a business that you eventually make you exclusive living off of. If I were young, less risk averse and not as happy with my job, I would definitely have considered that route.

For reference, I have a Mechanical Engineering degree and have been working in the control systems world for about 29 years.
