My parents never went through my stuff and it's crazy to see so many people here saying that. I know a couple people with crazy moms who read their journal and dug through their bedrooms growing up. They are all coincidentally no contact with their parents as adults.
Edit: I had rules to ensure I wasn't doing anything bad, so it was a non issue. Didn't get a phone until I was driving. We were probably the last people in Louisiana to leave dial up Internet, and a computer wasn't put in my room until I was 16.

I think it really depends on the child. Parents know their kids. Some kids are mischievous so obviously youll want to have a heads up of what they are doing. Some kids just have the personality of not being that way so theres. O need to "snoop around".
In my opinion, part of society's problem these days are parents wanting to be friends with their kids instead of being their parents. Dont think Im one of the cool parents? Oh well. My job is to raise you to be a productive member of society, not make your friends envious of how much we let you get away with.

Always trust with verification.
Deal with issues and move on.
Everyone, including you, has done a half dozen things you'd never want your parents to know about. Accept it. Don't let them get too far out the lines and let them self correct, where possible.

I never had to go through my oldest's stuff. If I have to with my other daughter, I will.

This is where the disconnect is.
I didnt get privacy until I moved out on my own.

Maybe the OP asked to have it deleted.

Why? Unless some personal info leaked into it. OP was heavily participating throughout last I saw.

I'm guessing something like that.

Someone might have used the images to find their personal info and contacted the sister.
It's possible if they uploaded directly from Facebook.

That's why we can't have nice things. Some freaking creep probably ruined it for the rest of us.

In my experience an overwhelming majority of the kids I know that fell off the deep end had overbearing parents. They had to grow up sneaky to get away with anything and learned to live that way. They also defied their parents because they had no freedom and did things just to piss them off.
I grew up with parents that let me learn from my mistakes. Looking back now I know that they knew some of the stuff I was doing (like drinking in high school), but they knew I was being safe. Had it become a problem or they even suspected it may have been they would had done something about it.

Absolutely do not agree. How little do you trust the kids you raised that you periodically feel the need to search their stuff? If I suspected something harmful - say I smelled pot on them or they came out of their room drunk or some other hypothetical example like a suicide note or hint they had a weapon they intended to use - and they refused to communicate with me about it, I'd search their stuff. But I'd never do it to flex muscle and show them that it's really "my house" and that it's all actually "my stuff."
this, 100%. let your kids have their privacy. as long as i dont suspect something is afoul, i will give them their space
i am not married nor do I have kids
