It depends on the tribe (family).

I'm Boudreaux, Chaisson and Hebert.

The Boudreauxs and Chaissons are all over 6' with the women around 5'8 - 6'. The Hebert side are all below 5'8.

But I would say genuinely yes, they are a "shorter" bunch.

Edt: Baton Rouge is not Cajun. Fyi

They have too much English.

I’m about 5’8 and went my whole life thinking I was pretty average height until I got to Marine Corps boot camp with some of those 6’4+ Minnesota baws. I was like Holy shite people in Louisiana are short.

This is so dumb. All those NBA players and NFL players all come from historically well to do lineages. Has nothing to do with genetics, right?

I am originally from South Mississippi from good German and English stock. I am 6'0 and my sister is around 5'9. Both parents are fairly short dad, 5'9 mom, about 5'5.

I now live in Larose and like was said earlier, when I go to church I feel like I am one of the tallest people in the church. However, there is one oddity that I don't remember seeing anywhere but here and that is that a good many of the women down here huge. over 6'0 feet and built like linebackers. Hell I attend the same mass every week with Coach O's mother coco and I can clearly see where coach got his build. LOL.

My little girl is 5'5" now. She probably won't reach ELT proportions. She's about to be looking down on my wife now though. I do not look forward to the HS years.

Does she play any sports? I wish I would’ve gotten into athletics when I was her age.

Nothing wrong with short folks. Dynamite comes in small sticks.

I wish I'd have married a coonass instead of a damn yankee dude.

My family is 100% pure coonass. On my dads side I have 13 male cousins, my brother and I are 5-11ish. We are the shortest of all the cousins in my family.

On my mom side she has 3 brothers about 5-6, 1 was about 5-9, and another about 6'. All the cousins are about 5-10 or so.

I was taught that Napoleon put all of his tallest soldiers at the front of the battle line to intimidate the enemy. Since those soldiers were more likely to die in combat, their "tall gene" wasn't passed on. So genetically the French people became shorter as a result.

Coonass is just a moniker for south LA people which is basically the LA version of redneck.

Incorrect. Coonass is not quite synonymous with Cajun. It's a bit more derogatory, but not as offensive as ni--er is to blacks.

Still, I'd say that cajun is to coonass as black people is to ni--er, though coonass is not nearly as offensive.

Neither is a blanket term for s. Louisianans though.

My buddy who owns a men’s clothing store in Cajun country says he has to tell his dress shirt maker that we’re all short with big necks, so he has to send him weird sizes of shirts... 20 inch necks, 33” sleeves

Based on the "I hate how ugly I've become thread", all coonasses' mothers tell them they are handsome. And all coonasses get more handsome after 20 years of smoking and gorging on domestic beer.

I've wondered if, historically, people who identify as coonass and were below average in height it was partly caused by their diet. The US population has seen an increase in average height as better nutrition practices were incorporated into childhood development. I'm not saying there is a strong genetic influence, but that diet and nutrition could have been a factor.

Either that, or shorter people excel in warmer climates because we all know heat rises. Who wants to experience warmer temperatures with a couple of extra inches? You'll just be that much warmer.

Depends. One time I was in coonass country (unusual for me, I normally stay in St. George, rubbing shoulders with the upper echelon). There was a 5’5” manlet at the restaurant and quite frankly I’m surprised the staff didn’t mistake him for a shrimp and flick him into the fryers

That's how genetics works. I'm 6'5", my dad is 6'2", my Grandpa was 6'1", his father was 6'3". My uncle is 5'9".

We suspect the mailman.
