Spinoff: What is the closest to closing time that you will go to a restaurant?

For me it is 30 minutes and that is rare. If I do I always make sure to either order to go or order something that the kitchen can make in a short amount of time.

Sit down? Maybe an hour, just so I'll definitely be gone by official "closing time".
Delivery? Idk, I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I'm trying to get delivery within a few minutes of closing.

If a restaurant closes at 11, then 10. But I'll let the waitress know I'll be out of there asafp.

4 minues and 20 seconds before it closes

assuming it is a sit down restaurant the closest time I will go in is an hour before closing. I'm not an a-hole

Whenever I do a pizza party for my employees, I wait until about 5 minutes before closing time and place the order for 20 pizzas...to be ready at 11am the following day.
The silence or exaggerated sigh over the phone is fun stuff.

Really depends on the establishment
Sandwich shop(subway, quiznos, jimmy johns, etc.) Ill go in 20 minutes before close, but take it to go.
Drive thru fast food 30 minutes minimum or your risking the food being spit in
Dine in establishments I personally wont go if they close in a hour or less

This is me normally. I actually feel guilty even ordering to go 30 minutes prior to closing but I am not an inconsiderate dick like many who will respond to this.

I think this is standard. Anyone who doesn't follow this common courtesy probably never worked a real job and made their parents throw them a "super sweet sixteen".

If it is fast food I'll go right up to closing time and take out.
If it is going to take awhile for them to conclude their business with me, I try to get out reasonably quickly, enough so I'm not the last person there at least. I would not, for example, linger over a multicourse meal with wine for an hour after closing time.

All about vibe walking in.
If the staff is obviously cleaning? I'm out. If there are several tables with food still on them and server eager to seat you? I'll go in. 30 minute mark and I am looking for all of those things no matter the establishment.

An hour within closing time is my cutoff. Even a minute less and I won't bother.

One hour. I have images of the skeezy spanish actor in Waiting dropping my food on the floor and such.

Good strategy for two reasons:
1) The morning crew will be different people than the ni ght crew and they won't realize or care when you placed the order.
2) By doing this so close to closing time, you ensure that your food will not be prepared the night before and left to sit in the cooler overnight

Went into a restaurant in Paris and asked what time they closed. The owner said they closed in 30 minutes so I thanked him and started to leave but he was adamant that we stay. Just said he was shutting the ovens down soon so we'd need to order quickly. He said they'd be cleaning for another hour after closing time so don't feel rushed eating. There were 6 or 7 of us, too. Cool place.

Really depends on the place. Of course if it is fast food, good luck getting an ice cream or a shake, cause the sheen's broken at that hour, yet miraculously works at lunch the next day.
If it is a typical chain sit-down restaurant, I'd say 45 minutes just to be safe. You can be in and out in under 30 minutes usually. Some local place, depends on if I've been there before. I'm not walking into the pizza place down the road from my house if they close in an hour. They make them all by hand and it takes a good 20 minutes from when you order to when the food arrives. More if they're still busy. I would order that to go and just pick up.

The amount of time before closing that it will take for them to give me my takeout or serve me.
