Hell, I smoked it when I was a teen, but that was back in the early 1970's. Out of the group of 10 of us that grew up together, 5 are dead,3 due to drugs.
So, is weed a gateway drug? I say yes.
Wow. Just think if weed was legal and you had access to it. 10/10 of y'all would be dead.

I am definitely against legalization. I already hate the way cigarettes smell, can't imagine having to smell skunky pot. Gross

I should be the perfect case study
White male
Never smoked a cig in my life
Never smoked weed in my life
Social drinker
I think it's dumb that it's not legalized yet

Its funny how much cig smokers hate the pot smell. Was at the smoking section of a concert outside in the cloud of tobacco smoke and a guy next to me lit up a joint and all the smokers were acting like it was the worst thing ever. I found it funny. I just breathe in and out my mouth when around smokers. Weed smoke does smell a lot better than tobacco smoke, especially cigar smoke.

Late to the conversation, but I live in Denver metro and here are my observations:
16 year old teen was high, and ran over and killed a kid walking to school. He was sentenced to two years in juvie.
Weed is literally everywhere. You can no longer hike a trail or go on a bike ride or walk to a Rockies game without getting hit in the face with weed. When it was illegal, people were a bit more discreet with it. It's open season now and to those who don't smoke or care for the smell, has become an issue.
With it being so easy to get, kids are able to get into this stuff a lot easier. I preferred it when it was harder to come by, and people had a bit more respect for others with it.
That sounds like a Denver problem. I also live in a legal state and I haven't noticed any increase in public consumption. Sounds like the result of CO branding itself as a weed destination despite a lack of places for tourists to smoke.
And you're fooling yourself if you think it was harder to get when it was still illegal.

Not really. To me, getting stoned went out the door once I grew a set of balls to move on with my life. Same went for the other 4 that is still alive.
Lets face it. If I own a company that had people running heavy equipment, I sure as hell don't want a drunk or stoner operating anything.
That is why I said to keep it ban till there is a way to have someone checked on the spot with real time readings.
As a boss, one has the responsible to provide a safe work place.

but my biggest concern is being able to identify drivers who are under the influence.
Cell phones are more dangerous than weed when it comes to driving

Medical purposes, sure legalize it. Recreational, no. People do stupid shite when they are high and if it becomes legal, more people will use it. I'm tired of trashy arse people that smoke pot. It's fun to do once or twice in college, but there comes a time when you need to grow up.

Kinda
I am ok with people who are able to support themselves and function without assistance using it.
I am opposed to someone sitting around getting high all day while receiving Section 8 Housing, EBT, Obama Phones, and SSI and claiming that the system is against them.
If you are willing to accept the consequences of drug use then I'm ok with it.
And companies should maintain the right to not hire or fire based on use.

It sound like you hung out with a lot of losers.

I'm an industrial business owner myself and you're kidding yourself if you think it being illegal is stopping anyone from using it.

Consumption went down in the Netherlands and Portugal after it was legalized.

According to state data gathered by ThinkProgress, the seven states with existing programs — Arizona, Kansas, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Utah — are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars to ferret out very few drug users. The statistics show that applicants actually test positive at a lower rate than the drug use of the general population. The national drug use rate is 9.4 percent. In these states, however, the rate of positive drug tests to total welfare applicants ranges from 0.002 percent to 8.3 percent, but all except one have a rate below 1 percent. Meanwhile, they’ve collectively spent nearly $1 million on the effort, and millions more may have to be spent in coming years.

My only issue is my employer doesn't allow it and I don't want to get fired for walking through a cloud of dope smoke on accident. Otherwise, go ahead. The only way to win the war on drugs is to let the American farmers fight it.

Don't test.
Make it only legal if you have a license. If you request a license you become ineligible for gov't subsidies.

You won't pop hot for that. That's a myth created by potheads that failed their piss test.

With this company, do they have a breathalyzer with accurate real time readings ready to check for alcohol? You have a mind altering substance that is legal already, why dont companies just breathalyze their employees when they come into work?

Why wouldnt they?
Im trying to tell some people who may be skeptical. People that dont smoke marijuana arent just going to start using because it is legal. Nothing would change other than the fact it would be regulated and taxed. Your day to day life will not change at all.
