I'm the one who thinks if I happened to actually make $2/hour, I'd have something to say about it.

You literally know zero people who make that amount of money. So you should probably stfu.

It depends on the increase in the food cost.. While the sever is guaranteed minimum wage, the consumer is going to pay for it, whether it be tips or food cost.

What the frick are you talking about?

Nobody ever thought they only made 2.13 an hour. Of course the meat of their income is tips.

It's about what the employer is responsible for in wages.

I'm failing to see the point of this thread.

Yep. It's a tip and a reward for good service. I use the same tipping protocol you do.

Wrong. Tipping Is paying for a inclusive service. A decent person always tips. If it's poor service, leave a poor tip. The only time you should tip is if the server is rude. If they're just not good, you're still receiving the service.

Yea I'm not a cheap bastard, and understand that if I can't tip at least 20% I shouldn't bother eating at that restaurant/bar.

If minimum wage went into the $10 range would you still tip 20

I probably would but eating out would become a once in a while thing at that point. I'm a good cook so I got my alternative.

I tip based off performance. If it's ok I tip 20%. If it's really good I'll go 30+ but if it's shitty I won't tip at all no matter how big the bill is

My man, I do the same.

Very many people think that if waiters got zero tips, they'd earn $2/hour. In fact, most people think that. I bet you did until about 10 minutes ago. It's OK, you don't have to dispute it. I stipulate you did.

That's your opinion. Do what you want with your money but I'm not giving someone mine for crap service.

Are you fricking serious?

I've never thought that.

But I will admit I replied before clicking the link

Hence my second post questioning whether that direct wage difference is ever enforced.

What the ever loving frick is this shite?

ETA: Yes you will ALWAYS get at least minimum wage, but you do get a paycheck of 2.13 or whatever it is now. The reason that matters is because if someone is getting paid minimum wage and making tips on top then it is a big difference to those waiters who have an automatic $5 an hour "deducted" because they made tips over minimum wage. I understand what you are saying but it is also bullshite to say that a restaurant is not paying the 2.13 an hour. They get off the hook because the tips that the waiter makes.

No worries.

I just came at it from an experience point. What the hell is this guy talking about not getting 2.13/hr direct wages?!

I remember my labor numbers when bar managing and my pay as server

If minimum wage goes up, will the 2.13 base go up?

Waiters probably all make way more than minimum wage if you break it down by hour

I probably averaged 20 bucks an hour back in my day, but don't tell uncle sam
