From what I have heard this has changed a ton. Certain restaurants dont even have you walking out the door with all of your tips since most are payed with credit card now a days and restaurants dont want all that money on site. They get it on their paychecks.

I have the experience too, and I actually had the joy of bringing my check one time to the owner of the restaurant and showing get him I made less than min wage that period. I worked for a great store, so my next check was adjusted. Other than that, I never made less than $12-13/hour (I was a busser when the wage deal happened).

Damn, must have been a slow couple of weeks.
Yeah, I didn't think of bussers, but we paid them 5.50/hr or at least 4.50.

I would never change my tipping %. If min wage went to $30 per hour, the % would still be the same. Inflation will adjust according to the min wage. So food cost x % will always be the same.

For that particular pay period, I worked a few Mondays and a Tuesday, I think. It was slow. And bussers made that 2.13 like everyone else. But not really.

Servers already make $10 on the clock here. I've been debating tipping less, but I've still been doing 20%.

That's nothing. Most servers only work 3-5 hours per shift, and the job responsibilities are still very taxing on a persons body. It's not an easy job. Not many servers would be willing to work 40 hours a week for 7.25/hour, or even 10 per hour. Which would result in a lot of restaurants shutting down.

If people started tipping less, the employers would have to pay the difference. Then the cost of the food you eat would go up. They would have to make up the difference some way. The ones that wouldn't could be facing bankruptcy shortly after.
If a person doesn't have money to tip. Then they shouldn't go to full service restaurants. Or maybe they should make their own food

You are required by law to make at least minimum wage. Either your tips add up to equal minimum wage or your employee covers the amount in addition to the 2.13 to make minimum wage.

Exactly.
If its a great or okay waiter, I'll tip the 18-20% minimum in cash. If its a pretty bad waiter, I'll do 15% on card.
The issue is waiters these days also think they're entitled to a tip without working. If is a horrible waiter, I'll honestly walk out adding 0 tip.
Last time, we had 4 people eat at zeas, it wasn't even busy and the girl was serving 3 tables (total of 10 people, 4-4-2). She got our drinks and brought them out we were ready to order, but she said 'give her a moment to get something from the other table'. Fine, no big deal - It happens all the time right? you're thinking 5 minutes. Well, 21 minutes later (yes I actually paid attention) she came back and got the appetizer/entrées. took 30 minutes for the appetizer and when i got it, it was lukewarm, and another 30 minutes after that to get the entrées. Asked for a water refill 3 times, got it none the whole time. Paid with a card, she took 15 minutes to come back with my card. A '1hr' early dinner @ 5pm turned into a 2hr dinner. I left 0, extremely pissed off. She actually chased after me and cursed me out.
The whole time, a whole different waiter in the same area cleared 3-4 tables 3 times.

I have an employee that has never worked a single day. Owners father, has a small salary that i used to turn in as 80 hours so i didn't.have to figure his hours. I would turn in his payroll as 80 hours based off his salary. Did not fly under federal min wage standards.
Hours worked + monies paid must equal federal min wage guidelines.
