Louisiana Troopers don't even enforce speed limits from their cars. The aircraft are just for flying high ranking officials to meetings across the State.

Are these things for real? I’ve never heard of someone getting a ticket from this.

I don't know of anyone getting a ticket from it. But years ago I was headed to New Orleans on the 55 high rise and was a few miles away from the notorious Ruddock exit where State Troopers like to hang out. Drive past one of them sections where the trees are right up against the high rise and as soon as there was a opening in the trees. A state police chopper was hovering next to the road and a trooper was sitting next to the open door shooting radar. As soon as I got to the Ruddock ext there were about 6 cars stopped getting tickets from several troopers. Luckily I wasn't one of them.

Also another legend is about a ticket being thrown out because there was no way the motorcylce could do the speeds that were reported.

I had this happen to me, well a friend of mine. We ran a red light, then ran from the policeman that was waiting on the other side of the intersection. When he finally found us he wrote my friend 6 tickets. My friend was in court telling the judge his speedometer didn't even go that high.

Yes, they are real. I commonly see the timing marks on the road and have seen the aircraft a few times. That shite can't possibly be cost effective, though.

I'm surprised states like Florida don't just deal out speeding tickets when they can tell exactly how long it takes to get from one particular toll booth to another

I think some states do. It would be so easy, too. Just add a surcharge to the toll.

magine how much cost of fuel, cost of pilot, cost of lookout man with stopwatch, and cost of ground cop total...!!!

What a large investment of time, effort, and resources for a relative small return in fines.

If they have already invested in the plane and the pilot, they have no real choice but to use it for something. The pilot has to fly on a regular basis to maintain competency, its not exactly like driving a car, skills can degrade quickly. A aircraft needs to be flown regularly for a lot of reasons. Given all that if there are no active crime situations where the pilot and aircraft would be beneficial, they might as well be chasing speeders as it offers some small return on investment.

I’ve wondered about that while on TEXexpress.

But at the end of the day, it’s all about money, right? A half way busy express lane can generate a dozen times more revenue than the time it takes one cop to write one ticket. Minute after minute, for hours a day.

Which then has a lot of time and resources to acquire that money, with the largest cost coming from the consumer to the insurance coffers, not the state.

You start scaring people off the Big Brother Express way, and your golden goose dies.

They do...or did. I got a ticket for this back in the 90s. I never paid it though...and a warrant was never issued.

This is going to be hard for you to understand, but there are other activities taking place by the aircraft at the same time.

The same aircraft is also up to coordinate take heat signatures from houses to show grow houses or meth labs. It also is used to determine patterns for human trafficking/immigration.

Yeah they basically just time you from one point to the next and calculate the speed.

It is completely BS though

The cop on the ground that you deal with isn’t even the cop that tracked your speed.

He’s acting on hearsay from another person.

Kinda like a criminal on the run being tracked by a helicopter and his position being radioed to ground units? You saying that's wrong too because I don't see any difference.

I got one on 49 back in the mid 90's, SP didn't have anywhere to hide back then after it first opened so they used the plane quite a bit.

They've used planes in some states for decades. Now drones.

I used to see what could only be described as timing strips on i20.
I haven't seen any for years.
