I have a nephew that designs weapons systems for the military. He was swamped with work and they were on his arse to come up with something new, so while on a flight, he quickly sketched out something ridiculous and completely insane just to shut them up for awhile.

They want it.

Pretty much but with nanophotonic film. The tech isn't classified but 'officially' it isn't possible yet on a scale larger than a few inches.

and with the drone discussions going on in this thread, I'll also add that our more capable advanced drones become even more terrifying when they're not visible to the human eye.

Interest in that kind of program is quickly withering on the vine, and it needs to.

The amount of money that goes into those programs to yield zero real world difference is staggering.

It was supposed to be nearly a carbon copy of an Italian DDG that is already in the water, and our defense establishment managed to change at least 40% of the ship, extending build times, exploding the budget, and ... getting rid of the main gun. Completely stupid, and we do it over, and over.

You aren’t wrong generally, but you’re confusing DDGx with the Constellation class frigates we’re building that are based on the Italian FREMM’s

DDGx is a Flight I and II Burke replacement since the Zumwalts were such an unmitigated disaster

People have made comments about how far we are behind in drone warfare because of what has been seen with Russia/Ukraine.
We had bad arse drones during the Iraq war that were being controlled by people in Florida and could fire missiles and such. No telling what all we have now, but I’m sure it’s much more advanced than most people realize.

The drones that we are sending to Ukraine is also just the tech that we are willing to export. As far as world wide drone sales are concerned, we are way behind other nations like Turkey. The Fiber Optic drones have obviously been a step up from the wireless drones we saw in the first two years of the war. But again this is just the stuff that we are willing to export and are ok with them being reverse engineered. There is no telling what our true drone capabilities really are unless we get into a peer to peer conflict.

Yep.
With the way we fight wars, I’m not sure how much we really need to smaller drones in big numbers.
We can just launch cruise missile from subs and ships and drop whatever we want from our jets and choppers.

This is such a fantastic idea. Load up a bunch of missiles and bombs with the common cold virus and they’d be in quite the pickle.

Still wouldn't keep them far enough away.

How about we demagnetize them.... we got anything that'll disrupt electrons?

Very cool idea but uniquely unuseful against space and air based targets.

And while we work on this stuff, which is good, China is working on a bioweapon that will kill anyone that is not an Asian.

Weird because 99% of people can’t find a copperhead in a 20 year old meme, seems like we could have figured this out by now. Call Realtree.

go read tom clancy the bear and the dragon

essentially china is attacking russia over a huge gold and diamond deposit in the book. We know its going to happen and we side with the russians

we deploy drones and watch from 30k feet while the drone loiters, they draw in a full line of tanks and other armor and the drones launch thousands of smaller drones that simply attack and destroy each piece of armory in the convoy destroying a whole brigade in a matter of seconds all done from a screen hundreds of miles away

in the book the russians are shocked.....well that is basically what we have and have had for a while. now we have true hypersonic missles, rail guns, laser, ability to cloak drones while they hover through skins, stealth drones, drones so small they look like insects, drone swarms controlled a mother ship like i talked about etc etc

we wouldnt use them unless we have too. they are working on drone jets that are controlled by a "mother" jet amongst a bunch of shite.

I suspect a lot of the UFOs we've had reported over the last couple decades were ours.

I suspect we have this triangle shaped one and a smaller spherical one, but I'm not sure what weapons platforms we have associated with them.

Further, I strongly believe that the drones that were appearing over the US eastern seaboard last year were ours and were looking for something.

After the nuclear bomb was developed people were trying to think of uses for nuclear power. Richard Feynman proposed nuclear powered airplanes. He was joking. The US government issued a patent for the idea under Feynman's name and the US and Russia tested the idea with actual nuclear planes. It turns out the idea really is batshit crazy because of the radiation emissions. No surprise.
