Special Olympics fitness initiative

I work some with local Special Olympics.
As they are trying to keep athletes healthy they are starting a "Fit 5" initiative.
1) Daily step count
2) 5 fruits/veggies a day
3) 5 glasses of water
4) 30 minutes of physical activity.
How many governments have tried similar?
Simple changes in lifestyle could save thousands of lives from COVID. Yet, crickets from government.

Mask Debating for 30 minutes is an easy way to get that heart rate up

Being healthy may help but it isn't a guaranteed life saver like a vaccine. I have a family member who was previously in good shape & very healthy in the ICU fighting for her life right now.

Are you saying government has never put out recommendations like this?

If everyone did that health insurance, hospitals, and doctors would be on the brink of bankruptcy. They make a killing on fat, unhealthy people everyday without even factoring in covid.

The Louisiana government is certainly doing its job by giving free Big Macs to people who do their bull shite testings. That helps the cause.

You want the government to mandate how you eat and how much exercise you get a day?

Healthy lifestyles are racist

Exactly. Plus we've been telling obese people to do all of this for years in efforts to try and save their lives & they ignore it.

I'd bet 75% of Americans get 0 of these

Physical education, food pyramid, anti-smoking PSAs, etc.

Vaccines aren't guaranteed life savers. Especially with the coronavirus family.

Of course not.
But, during briefings Fauci etc could be like "the most important thing you can do to protect yourself is be active and eat well".
Just pound it into public consciousness.
Just like they did with masks etc.

This is a very fulfilling endeavor. The high school I attended was host to the district Special Olympics every year. For several years, I and a few friends volunteered to help out with it, even a time or two after graduation when when were able. Those kids loved it, and they looked forward to it every year. The families did as well, and you could tell it was a special thing for all of them.
I may look into volunteering again. It was such a good experience.

Maybe not, but it's gotta be a hell of a lot better solution than telling people just to be healthy.
