An Indiana fifth-grader, who has autism, was given a "most annoying male" award by his teacher during a ceremony attended by classmates and the school faculty, according to the boy's father.
Rick Castejon told The Times of Northwest Indiana that he was at the awards luncheon last month for students at Bailly Preparatory Academy in Gary when the special education teacher presented his 11-year-old son with the trophy.
Inscribed on the bottom of the award were the words: "Bailly Preparatory Academy 2018-2019 Most Annoying Male."

Was that before or after she fricked him?

If he's the most annoying in a class of special education students, and the award is given out in regular classes too, I don't see the problem.
If they just singled him out in a class of regular students, it's fricked up.

I feel like this happened last year. Remember a thread about it

would he rather have the award for "biggest failure to thrive", because that means his son's quality of life is the worst in the school.
This award means that his kid has a better quality of life than some of his fellow classmates.
It could always be worse, but this jerk of a father forgot that.
I would take austism over failure to thrive anyday of the week and twice on sundays

I'm not saying carry the kids around in a basket or anything, but I probably wouldn't want adults to roast my kid in 5th grade, autistic or not.

Since when are these "awards" so mean spirited? Seems kind of dicky, autism or not.

Not sure it's necessary/appropriate for an elementary school to have an award luncheon where they call out/embarrass kids, particularly those in special education. I know it's fun to be an arse on the OT, but the school might want to rethink this one.

This shite actually happened in front of the principal, other teachers and other students and they had no clue about it.
If I was the principal there, I would have fired her right there on the spot as a warning to other teachers who might have taken encouragement from this.
Might be extreme but that was an extreme moment too.

You feel bad for them...to a point...
But you have to draw the line eventually when they are screaming and causing a scene and throwing things.
If you can’t function in public, maybe don’t go in public
