SpaceX's 'Starman' and Its Tesla Roadster Are Now Beyond Mars

Seems like only yesterday this was launched.
LINK
Starman has put a lot of miles on his Tesla Roadster in the last nine months.
The red electric car and its spacesuit-clad mannequin driver, which launched on the maiden mission of SpaceX's huge Falcon Heavy rocket in February, have made it beyond the orbit of Mars, company representatives said Friday night (Nov. 2).
Musk has said that he launched the Roadster and Starman because the duo is a lot more fun than the typical inert-mass dummy payload (pun intended; sorry). Launching a satellite or other valuable spacecraft wasn't an option, given the risks inherent in maiden flights. (Musk also runs Tesla, so publicity was probably a factor as well.)

At what point do you anticipate starman to penetrate Uranus?

David! My Favorite poster! Dude do you think life exists outside our galaxy? Or period? I did prefer your other profile pic. though.

Yeah I think there’s other life within our own galaxy not to mention the billions of other galaxies. Even if the conditions needed to form life are rare, the vast quantities we are dealing with still I would think mean it’s all but inevitable.
Intelligent life forms are another story, but even then I don’t think we are alone or even close to being alone in that regard. The Drake equation is a famous estimation of the number of such civilizations:
Here’s a BBC documentary on it too if interested: LINK
But currently we only have one example of life forming in our universe so it’s all just speculation for now.

I gotcha....so you think life wouldn't be intelligent necessarily? In other words it would be like plant life etc.? I gotcha. Of course I've always been fascinated by the mathematical posilities of not being alone. Like you said Billions of galaxies.

The definition of what is intelligent can be pretty subjective but yeah I think it safe to assume the vast vast majority is what we would consider non intelligent life, but that’s how it is here on Earth too.

Touche...what I found fascinating was the fact that most of us don't realize is that we don't see galaxies as they are, but as they were. Time in space is determined by light years....a galaxy light years away..isn't what we see it as now.

Thank you for the update. Also I can’t believe it has been 9 months

Looks like he was trying to recreate the opening scene of the movie Heavy Metal.

Are we just supposed to take their word for it?

I thought the martian said it would take 3 years to get to mars?

It all depends on the positions of the planets.
And he didn’t have to go to Mars or another planet.
So it’s a simple orbit.
No insertion burn to line up with the target

So is this thing on an elliptical orbit and coming back or did they just feel like shooting a car out into deep space?

so when are we going to see the star trek movie where a far away life form finds this thing and returns it to earth in the form of an AI warship?
