SpaceX Starship Flight Test 3 | B10 crashes in Gulf, S28 burns up during reentry

Official SpaceX Stream on X/Twitter
NASASpaceflight on YouTube - IFT3 launch live stream link - going live at 11 PM CDT on Wednesday, March 13th
Typically epic "Preparing for Third Flight Test" hype video on the SpaceX YouTube
Just about 4 months after the wildly successful 2nd test flight of the Super Heavy Booster and Starship... SpaceX is ready for the 3rd test flight of the vehicle, featuring Super Heavy Booster B10 and Starship S28
SpaceX is officially targeting Thursday, March 14th (pending weather) for a window which runs from 7 AM - 8:50 AM CDT to launch B10 & S28
SpaceX and the FAA worked together following the 2nd fight test and came up with 17 corrective actions to take following the explosions of both vehicles... and there's evidence that SpaceX feels this 3rd test flight is the 1 that will make it... at least maybe booster makes the planned soft splashdown in the Gulf and Starship makes it to Starship Engine Cut-Off (SECO).
What gives that idea that SpaceX is feeling confident you ask? It's because S28 has operational payload bay doors.
On the previous 2 launched Starships... the payload bay doors were welded shut. This time, not only are the payload bay doors not welded closed... there's a new step added to the flight plan where SpaceX plans to test the payload bay doors in-flight while Starship is in its coast phase
Starship will launch from Starbase/Boca Chica, Texas out into the Gulf of Mexico, where Booster will separate from Starship thanks to the hot-staging maneuver and make a soft landing in the Gulf with some of its engines firing... it will then tip over, all valves will open to allow seawater in to sink it and allow it to become a new coral reef
Starship will continue on and split the strait between Florida & Cuba and head across Africa before going through reentry and belly flopping at terminal velocity in the Indian Ocean.
Following the success of the previous flight... it seems like the main objectives of this test will be to successfully land booster in the Gulf, make it to SECO, test the payload bay doors, test transitioning fuels between its tanks while in space, test reigniting a Raptor vacuum engine while in space, and get to reentry to see how the heat shield tiles hold up during reentry... actually splashing in the Indian Ocean at terminal velocity would be the ultimate success.
B10/S28 stacked and ready for launch

The FAA needs to just get the frick out of Elon's way.

It's incredible what that company has accomplished. Probably the greatest American company in existence.

flight path remains the same as the previous 2 flights... launch from Starbase/Boca Chica, Texas out into the Gulf of Mexico, where Booster will separate from Starship thanks to the hot-staging maneuver and make a soft landing in the Gulf with some of its engines firing... it will then tip over, all valves will open to allow seawater in to sink it and allow it to become a new coral reef
Starship will continue on and split the strait between Florida & Cuba and head around the globe with reentry over the Pacific Ocean and a belly flop crash landing at terminal velocity in the Pacific near Hawaii.
From what I understand this flight path has them landing in the Indian Ocean instead of splashing down off the coast of Hawaii.

It really is amazing what SpaceX has done. And at a quarter or less of the cost of NASA. I think NASA has pretty much let SpaceX take the reigns in terms of rocket design and reusability. No one else is doing what this company does.
But of course, leftists hate it because he doesn't censor the right on twitter.

Yeah NASA has already said they're out of the rocket business in the future. They currently have the SLS but it's a financial disaster and the crew capsule is plagued with problems, not tonmention completely outdated. It would make more sense just to scrap that program and give the money to SpaceX and other private space companies at this point.

Yeah, NASA needs to just become a replacement for the FAA with a mandate to stay out of the way of progress.

Nasa, is just a place to go visit to see what they did back in the 1960's to 2000.
They are like us old men, out dated and have lost our edge.
They lost it when they had some disasters and became slaves to over worry and bureaucracy.
Remember when they would straps dudes onto a supersonic experimental airplane and told them to 'light the wick'?

Anyone see the SpaceX capsule landing this morning? Pretty sweet.

SpaceX fully expects to have the launch license in time to launch by the end of the week... if not Thursday then surely by Friday
The main issue will be the weather and if mother nature will decide to cooperate with a launch
Also... Elon has apparently said he hopes to have around 6 more Starship launches by the end of the year
Of note... Starship S29 is already in its test campaign... having done a spin prime yesterday

Smarter Every Day-NASA Talk
Everyone should watch this that is interested in how all this moon base stuff is going to need to work. To get the Starship to the moon it is going to take at least 10 launches and respective refueling in low orbit for the trip. SLS will be in an eccentric orbit that is problematic for communications. It will make you question how they plan to pull this off.
NOTE, it starts off slow but gets going after he gets over being worried about pissing them off.

Nasa just needs to tell SpaceX, get us to the moon and here's your budget.

Yep, controlled landing with propulsion.
After PEZ door open/close.

Still waiting on the FAA to issue the license for tomorrow's proposed flight test
But the weather is still the main concern as the forecasted wind speeds for tomorrow may be outside of parameters for launch
As of now though... everyone seems to be setting up that launch will happen tomorrow between 7 & 9 AM

I thought the plan was just to belly flop the starship but controlled propulsion "landing" of the booster in the gulf

NASA should be ashamed to show their face in public. SpaceX has made an embarrassment of them.
But NASA is committed to getting a woman (before she transitions) and a PoC to the moon. Beat that Elon.
