But NASA is committed to getting a woman (before she transitions) and a PoC to the moon. Beat that Elon.

Well the ship being tested is the one that's going to be landing the astronauts on the moon.

other tests set for this flight that I didn't realize were set until after I made this thread (1 may also explain why splashdown of Starship will be in the Indian Ocean instead of the Pacific this time)...

1) a tank-to-tank transfer of cryogenic propellants... see if that's feasible in space

2) relight of 1 of the vacuum Raptor engines in space (I assume this will essentially serve as a deorbit burn... causing Starship to reenter Earth faster and thus why splashdown for this flight is in the Indian Ocean instead of near Hawaii)

I thought the plan was just to belly flop the starship but controlled propulsion "landing" of the booster in the gulf

yeah Starship will belly flop into the ocean at terminal velocity

booster will fire its engines to test its hover sequence like the chopsticks will grab it when SpaceX eventually decides to go for the catch back at the launch site

of course they aren't doing an actual catch right now b/c it's still unproven and they want to avoid possibly destroying the launch tower/stage 0 if at all possible

Yeah NASA has already said they're out of the rocket business in the future.

Curious.

Q: So what of the $52 million PER DAY allowance they been playing with for the last 50 years? (as well as going forward).

Is its budget now all being re-directed to the "Space School" for adults & kids we keep hearing about -- the one staffed with blue-haired transformer "instructors"?

I have vintage "Space" books written and illustrated by Willy Ley from the mid-late 1950s that depict space ships in detail that showed and explains how life-support systems would work; in settings almost identically to the photos you've posted (heavy equipment moving dirt, domed and subterranean"bases".)

>
The settings depicted were on both the Moon and Mars.

These books were my favorites, made me look forward to the day when it was possible. In book book it claimed there were "canals" and water on Mars as well as an "ice cap". The projection was even so detailed as to claim a high temp of 70 degrees at its equator.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid at some point there's got to be a realization that the whole "Space Travel" dream was just that; that its all been just a fantasy vision of the "Futurists" and dreamers of the times.

about 15 minutes ago... the FAA put out an environmental study on potential impacts of Starship landing in the Indian Ocean

that's likely the last step and I imagine a launch license should be coming soon

Mate, please remember to include Kimbal Musk in your gameday launch thread tomorrow. He will be there and just launched his new cookbook.

if this is ok by the Mighty Fowl... I've gone ahead and transitioned this thread from an "awareness of its possibly happening" thread to the "launch day" thread

a link for a live stream has been added to the OP and I'll add the official SpaceX live feed link as soon as it's available on the YouTube page

I also went ahead and added a link to the SpaceX flight 3 hype video that was just uploaded to the YouTube page as well

police are already prepping the roadblocks

the highway in front of the SpaceX facility closes at midnight and as the night moves on they push the roadblock further and further back

The NASASpaceflight marathon live stream has started... it won't stop until either scrub or there's an empty launch mount
