Good for them

We need more stories like this

People should handle these situations at the local level with personal responsibility. Not put it on something like the government.

Its ironic how the democratic party has pretty much removed most black fathers from raising his kids yet things go well when the father is involved. Just like it any other race.

Awesome! Great on these dads to give themselves to the school.

My sister taught at Southwood in the 70's. Craig Bradshaw was one of her students. Have the demographics flipped since then? They have at all the Baton Rouge public high schools, so I would assume the same for S'port.

Completely. Southern Hills is a different place from what it was in the 70’s and 80’s.

Amazing what the involvement of a father actually produces.

Big time, Southern Hills was majority white up until the late 90's. My dad and his family lived there before they moved back to Lafayette. He went to Southwood during the time period your sister taught there. Most of his friends from high school have either moved to Bossier or Desoto or the Dallas area.

What a novel concept, it’s almost like everyone with common sense has been saying dads are important for about 40 or 50 fricking years.

Imagine that. Having a father figure around is a positive thing.

If the dad's were white this would be considered racist though.

Glen Oaks has or had this. I think they were the “security dads.” A lot of them looked like grandpas. But they were always nice and sort of hung around the breezeways talking, and keeping an eye out.

Back in my day nearly every kid had a dad at home. If you acted out in school you knew you'd catch it from your dad at home.

Pretty sure all the Shreveport public high schools (except Byrd, Caddo Magnet and maybe Captain Shreve) are majority black now.

"You ever heard of 'a look?'" one student asked while describing a "power" they claimed all dads have.[

But it's not just the firm stares and stern warnings — it's also the dad jokes.

"They just make funny jokes like, 'Oh, hey, your shoe is untied,' but it's really not untied," a student commented.

"They hate it! They're so embarrassed by it,"LaFitte said of the students.

And it's that perfect mix of tough love and gentle ribbing that dads do so well that has helped transform this school.

That’s gold.

Black people don't need white people to improve their lives, they need all fathers to be there.
