I mean the first class thing is dumb but idk why you’re being downvoted so much
I just looked at charter jet prices and you’re actually right, if you’re flying a family, you can get a charter jet for not too much different

quote:Flew a family of 5 roundtrip New Orleans to Honolulu for under $5K via Delta. I haven't checked charter prices in a while, but I'm guessing it would be significantly more expensive.

Around $2K/hour for a small turboprop when I looked 5 years ago, so around $60K for a 30 hour roundtrip?

depends on where you’re going I guess.
If you keep it to within an hour it’s not that different.
I’m seeing 2-5k for a flight hour which is just about anywhere at the eastern seaboard from ATL and you’ll drop 250 a ticket for delta Main Cabin easily and also have to pay for parking and deal with the airport.
It’s more expensive but not as more expensive as I’d expect.
Shrug.

They are having computer issues. Nothing to do with what you posted.

They’re having a bit more than computer issues
But yeah, not much of anything to do with FAA rest regs.

More like refusal to upgrade infrastructure to keep with the volume and the current climate. Even pilots are stuck and cant do a thing. The crews and pilots are available. Its their antiquated system thats fried! CEO needs to step down and lots of others fired

250 roundtrip vs 5k one way.
Pretty much the same.
That 5k doesn't include everything either. Especially if they don't have a backhaul.

Fwiw, a flight hour from Atlanta wont get you to Jacksonville.

Yep.
You know some of their managers and other consultants have warned them and tried to get them to upgrade, but that would cost money and might have hurt their bonuses and stock option.

The FAA regulates the number of hrs a pilot can fly in a day, month and a quarter. When airlines are short staffed, overtime early in the month affects the end of the month and the end of the quarter. They prob have pilots willing to come in, they just don’t have available FAA regulated duty time.
Not sure why you're getting downvoted. This was the reason that my Southwest flight was canceled a few days ago.

Mostly because a catastrophe of this scale doesn’t happen due to pilot rest rules. But yes, it does happen from time to time.

conveniently ignoring the “2k” part of the range.
1 hour gets you to alot of places.
I just checked the Delta app for Comfort+ out of ATL to ORL one way in June. 350/ticket to leave at 8am or 550/ticket to leave at 10 am.
Family of four to leave ATL at 10 am is 2200 one way for comfort+.

You alike think that a company that runs as tight as SW does would have a top notch IT system and be heavily dependent on it.
They have fallen a long way from Herb.

You’d think they’d run stress tests that would help them prevent situations like this.

So uh... spirit still getting places on time or they having issues too?

Damn FAA always coming down hard on SWA and letting every other carrier skirt the rules
If you believe this you haven’t been paying attention the last 30 years. No other airline has been more of a darling to the FAA and flying public than SWA. As mentioned above, as soon as the dust settles all will be forgiven and forgotten during their first post-meltdown fare sale.
