I don't consider Kentucky to be particularly Southern...they have more Appalachian culture than traditional Southern...it certainly beats the piss out of Mississippi though.

Mississippi women are hotter by a country mile.

I'll give Kentucky everything else. Both are states that are struggling to survive in the 21st century.

Mississippi. The parts around the river and the coast are the best parts of the state. I don't even count the rest as part of MS. It's more of West Alabama

The coast is not bad. Unfortunately the rest of Miss is unlivable.

Mississippi = #50

This means (overall) every state are each individually ahead of it.

Specific community exceptions exist within Mississippi, Ocean Springs or BSL come to mind that are better than a Bogalusa, LA or Hazard, KY.

Overall I'd rather my state have Kentucky's demographics than those of the Land Mass.

tl/dr: KY greases MS

Kentucky has mountains, the best state park system in the nation, and miles and miles of trails and exploration opportunities both above and below ground. Bourbon and basketball.

Mississippi has casinos.
