CenLA winter weather advisory has been UPGRADED to a WINTER STORM WARNING

quote:

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
National Weather Service Lake Charles LA
311 PM CST Sun Jan 10 2021

...Accumulations of snow and sleet are expected through early

.A potent winter storm system will continue to impact the region
early Monday. Precipitation across most of the area is expected
to remain predominantly cold rain, but across interior southeast
Texas and Central Louisiana, snow and/or sleet is expected to mix
with the rain, and eventually become the dominant weather type in
some locations. As such, some accumulation of sleet and/or snow is
forecast, with 1 to 3 inches expected and higher amounts
possible.

Snowing pretty good here NW of Houston

I wonder if that’s a good indicator for us in SE LA?
Was snow expected in your area?

Looking at Hydrometer Classification on RadarScope and using the scale and seeing the bright yellow and "Giant Hail" is terrifying. Thankfully, I've never seen that color during severe weather.

Snowing at 37 degrees in Magnolia, TX.

That’s got to be the warmest surface temp I’ve seen down south with snow.

Meteorologist Nick Mikulas
The winter storm warning has been expanded to include Rapides, Vernon, Grant, and LaSalle Parishes. The National Weather Service is now forecast 1-3 inches of snow in these parishes. Everything is coming together for a significant winter storm for those parishes, as well as the rest of North Louisiana. Some areas could see 5-6 inches of snow by the time this is done, through the areas that will see the heaviest snow will remain a mystery until this really starts to take shape overhead. I’ve been watching College Station Texas as a good comp for what we can expect. They’ve seen 2 inches of snow in the last 2 hours, and it’s snowing so heavily that it’s accumulating on all surfaces. Travel may become difficult or impossible tonight, and I fully expect some road closures. Especially bridges and overpasses. So if possible, sit back, and enjoy!

Its icy raining/sleeting in CenLa right now, but its melting as soon as it hits the ground. Hopefully it will snow in the next few hours.

Radar showed snow pretty far south into MS and LA this morning. Was that making it to the ground?

There was a really small dusting (only visible in the roof valleys) this morning at 5:30 in Covington. Hardly any, but enough for me to do a double take. The street light is on the yellow side illuminating it or I probably would have missed it.
