Southern Law School: Benefit to the State or a Mediocre Institution That Harms LA?

One argument is that it provides an opportunity for underprivileged and disenfranchised segments of our population to obtain a law degree, which is a requirement to sit for the bar exam.

The other is that it floods the market with less than competent attorneys who eventually are likely to be employed by state or city governments. Over years, this mediocrity causes all of us to suffer because they are at the helm of decisions which have the ability to affect all citizens.

Is SULC a beacon of “the law belongs to everyone” or should we make the hard decision to hold a state law school to a higher standard and shut it down?

Every decent lawyer needs some public defenders to go against to pad their stats.

Explain this, and I think you have your answer.

Considering they can’t practice until they pass the bar, I have no problem with it.

Perhaps increase the difficulty of the bar exam and cut funding to any program that doesn’t get a minimum passage percentage.

Bruh, we can't even shut down SUNO. There's no chance in hell they'd ever touch SULC

First off all law schools need to be padlocked for 10 years. And if it weren't for Non Minority students at SULC it would lose its accreditation.

SULC is now close to 50/50 minority/white.

I know this frustrates many of the faculty, but the problem is there are too many white applicants with higher scores that drive up admissions standards and cuts out many blacks.

I view this as a positive, but those who see SULC as an entitlement for any minority who wants a law degree see this as a big negative.

Mediocre is being kind, the LSAT scores accepted are basically randomly guessing

The answer is the latter. In fact “mediocre” is being kind.

This is a good answer.

I know it pisses off the LSU law students at how much easier the classes (or atleast the grading scale) is at Southern.

Southern is easy enough for one of the ginger twins to have straight As.

All of the law schools in the state produce "less than competent attorneys". SULC is higher per capita, but its not a large gap. The way to rein in the nonsense is to continue to protect the bar exam and start curbing the tort free for all.
I'm seeing more and more judges from SULC.

did you get sued or something?

Tort reform is a racket propagated by a dying store-front insurance industry. People have already voted away most of their rights, and are finally starting to realize it.

Saying all the law schools produce less than competent attorneys stems from spiteful anger, ignorance, jealousy, or more likely a combination of all three

I think it is a benefit to the community, but I also think they should make the bar exam more difficult.

Off topic... but kinda relates...

I witnessed two engineers at work who graduated from LSU... who thinks their hot shite... get showed up by an engineer from Purdue... who wasn’t even aware LSU had a engineering program... the funny thing is he knew several engineers from Southern(older guys) who he worked with around the country...

The Bar Exam in Louisiana is not any easier tan the Bar Exam in: Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas, New York or at least a dozen other states...probably more
