That number is horrible, but doesn't even come close to the number abused by priests of the catholic church. Not even a smidgen close.

Like you would have any way of knowing.

Always fun seeing Baptist rednecks trip over themselves to turn their hatred back towards Catholics whenever a Baptist minister is caught in impropriety, which is often.

But of course most of them don't get caught, they just get to move to a new special ministry in a new town where they can start all over as the cool minister who connects with kids. Eventually they'll be the pastor at some new megachurch. Each stop, they make more money and get nicer cars, all while claiming to be independent of that dreaded "hierarchy" you hicks are always bitching about. Nice little racket the Baptists have.

Satire? Has to be. The entire thread is about Baptists who were subjected to the law for the crimes they committed. I’ve seen nobody defend them, or the church, much less infer that the victims are collateral damage, and to look at all the good the almighty church does.

Let's see, one is a worldwide religion full of pedophiles in cloth the other is not.

Not Baptist at all. I was making a very viable comparison because the title made the comparison you dumbshit.

Catholic priests will always have others hold their beers. Sorry that truth bothers you. Maybe you should hold the catholic church to a much higher standard and stop kissing the popes ring.

No sir. I come into these threads in hopes that people will see that there are too many things about most if not all forms of organized religion that probably are an abomination to God, to be sold to those seeking His face as the path to salvation.

Any organization that spiritually and financially supports evil, cannot be seen as a legitimate source for truth in the gospel. Defense of the church, it’s actions, it’s inaction, and it’s own defense and protection of those who have committed evil acts can only be seen as evil. My Bible says to beware of false gods, and it seems to me that organized religion is the factory for them.

I'm not saying there isn't something wrong.

But are the numbers way worse for Christian clergy than teachers or day care workers or some other huge contingent of people that work around kids?

It might be, I'm legitimately asking.

I said this in the other thread and it is true. I have always had an intuition when it came to religious people.

I am not talking about people who go to church every weekend to practice their faith, I am talking about people heavily involved in the church.

It seems like there is more to the reason why they do it than it being a calling from god. I know this will be unpopular, but that's how I have always felt around people that are ultra-religious and involved in the church. For some people its like a drug, And it never really surprises me when these types of stories get reported.

The largest number of abusers come from situations where there is a non-parent living with the child, usually as the spouse or domestic partner of the child's parent.

I would suspect that the numbers in schools would run a distant second, since pretty much every kid goes to school, whereas not every kid goes to church. It is certainly true that child abusers tend to look for professions where children are present.

The title of the OP link is misleading. The article says it has found 700 victims of sexual misconduct, it does not say 700 children though a number of children are undoubtedly included. The article claims "380 church leaders and volunteers have faced allegations of sexual misconduct". Roughly 200 have been criminally convicted. If that's a cover up, it's possibly the worst attempt ever. Did anyone bother to read the interview of SB leadership by the investigative journalists? LINK

I'm not SB, I just hate when people jump to conclusions from headlines and edited 30 sec viral videos.

Pedophiles become aware of their attraction to young children at a early age and often choose career paths that will place them in the company and trust of children. The more intelligent ones become teachers, coaches, youth ministers, priests, and the not so intelligent will take jobs as custodians at schools. Some will even choose a spouse for access to her children often divorcing after the children become older.

I grew up Baptist (mostly) and can’t think of any occasions when a pastor would have had the opportunity to pull my pants down and start playing with my junk.

I wasn’t Southern Baptist though so maybe they have special rooms for that.

Kind of ironic to tout a list of people charged and convicted of the crimes they committed in comparison to Catholics, isn’t it? I mean, isn’t a big part of the problem the fact that the Catholic Church has protected pedophiles, homosexuals, and abusers for decades, and continues to do so?

Yep! Also, if you compare the number of cases listed here, the score is this:

Catholics Priests 3,400
Southern Baptists 400 (almost)

From the looks of those figures, the Catholic Church never held the beer and still has a keg.
