Meteorology seems to be the one government profession that isn’t infected by “woke” ideology. The meteorologists may be leftists to the core but they do their best to seek truth and don’t inject politics or ideology into their work.

Alright someone cliff note me as to what is going on
I see all of these schools down here in NOLA closing early and I am befuddled.
Is it really going to be that bad?

On one end of the spectrum we have opinions like this. On the other end, we have the people who claim "No warning!" despite days of advanced warning. Often times, after tragedy strikes, the ones from the former group join the latter. Quickly they go from, "Why all the fuss?" to, "Why the hell didn't you warn us?". It happens time and time again.
What I do see are a lot of administrators suspiciously quick to call a school/work closure as soon as they see orange on a map. And weather alarmists more than happy to slap some orange on a map for the attention.
It has happened like five times in the past two years and it hurts the profession's credibility with the public. There, I said it.

The Storm Prediction Center explains their entire thinking when they put out these convective outlook maps. They give their reasoning for “slapping some orange on the map.” Unfortunately, no one takes the time to pay any attention to that. Can they get it wrong sometimes? Sure. Do they make these maps with no justification? Absolutely not.

Days like today-tomorrow will always put me on edge since 4/27/10.
You can pretty much bet your house that somewhere between Picayune and Leakesville is going to see a large tornado. Central Alabama from Tuscaloosa down to around Monroeville or Camden almost always seems to get a bad one when the atmospheric conditions are like this.
We are not used to supercell activity on the coast though, so I'm sweating this one pretty hard. I'm 150 yards from the bay and there's 3 massive oak trees in my yard that survived hurricane Michael but they aren't holding up to a strong tornado. Taking my hardhat inside tonight

I'd have preferred they keep it where it was and then add a new one somewhere around LSU's campus in Baton Rouge.
But this is the next best thing. I think they had more than adequate coverage on the Mississippi coast so they had the opportunity to move one of them.

It's why I tend to follow specific meteorologists. You learn them over the years and know just based on their tone if an event should really be taken seriously. James Spann is sounding the alarm on this one.
YOU may not experience life threatening weather, but somebody in that orange cone is probably losing their house in the next 48 hours

People also have house fires and car accidents day in and day out. We still drive on the roads and use our fireplaces. You can’t live life without risk. It’s always present.

Here's my opinion on the matter, not that anyone cares or asked, but I'll give it again:
Today we have more ability to see all the atmospheric ingredients than ever before. Nothing is different about the weather now than it was 20 or 100 years ago. The only thing different now is that we know better now than ever before what ingredients are present and where, which leads to the pros sounding the alarm. "Holy shite guys, this has all the makings of a significant outbreak, better be weather aware" -- and they rightly give that heads up because it's true, there could very well be a huge outbreak given what's present.
Problem is, in my opinion, there's still a lot they don't know that they don't know, such as why tornadoes and other modes of severe weather occur and when they form. This is what leads to all the forecast busts. Just because the ingredients are there doesn't mean it'll happen.
The interstate is full of thousands of cars going 90mph all at once so the potential for a massive pileup is there but that doesn't mean it'll happen.
Meteorologists are victims of their own knowledge.
