Looks like the tornado-warned storm north of Katy may have put one on the ground. Pretty good CC dropout showing.

Yeah, and it coincides with where the velocity couplet is at. It’s kicking up something.

It looks to be a long day/evening. There isn't much activity across the open warm sector right now, which isn't a good thing. Satellite shows breaks in the clouds here and there. The main trough seems a bit delayed from where models have it, but as the jet streak rounds the base of it, it looks to go slightly negatively tilted. At the same time the low level jet ramps up into the evening, and it is well-placed and timed. That could be the most dangerous time for our central LA and MS folks.

NWS Houston is so bad

This was their radar indicated tornado with just a funnel cloud

Then on Thursday there was a confirmed tornado on the SW side of the city that was only a special weather statement.

You really don't want to do that in this political environment.

NWS seems to miss more than they hit with regard to NW FL.

I have zero weather training outside what I’ve learned here and on the internet with regard to reading radar signatures and I see 5 tornados a year that never get warned and usually any damage just gets chalked up to straight line winds or ignored.

Or when they finally get around to warning something it’s 10 minutes late and the storm is already weakening as they often do on the gulf coast. It’s an annoyance when it’s happening with a cell offshore, but it happens way too much during the school year when kids are in buses or whatever.

I just don’t get it. If the highlight of my job was tracking hurricanes and tornadoes I’d be all over this stuff like a pledge drinking free beers at a fraternity party but they just don’t seem to care.

Storm mode looks kind of messy. Hopefully, everything grows upscale rather quickly.

That embedded supercell got it done for a bit. It is now merging with the one to its south.

I'd keep an eye near Kingwood for another to form.
