New Orleans is the only city in the US that has a bar that is both within a block to a church and a block to a government building.

My parents were Postal management they didn't ball, but made secent money. We always had computers. Commodore 63, Atarai, Amiga, green screen apple, Packard Bell, Gateway.. I got my first cell phone in High School in 1997. It was rare as hell to have a Cell phone even then in school. But phones were getting more common.
I graduated in 96. I remember a few friends that had their own cell and yes...it was rare. My parents were poor so no way they could have afforded computers back then(esp since they were soo pricey back then). I can remember going to my friend's house and playing on their computer and thinking she was so lucky to have one.

To post on topic....I just don't see how anyone can argue that Section 8 isn't a cancer to decent neighborhoods. Starts off small and just spreads and takes over the whole area.
Wasn't the area near St Jean apartments sorta ok before that place went section 8(or was it always section 8).

Section 8 refers to a federal housing voucher program, offering rent payment assistance for private housing based on income levels and family composition.
The age of entitlement has caused a profound disconnect in this country. People need to remember that any "government funded" is paid exclusively by the tax payers.
So regular folks, who work and bleed to be upstanding citizens, are financing these cretins. It's such an absurd time we live in.

borrows a friends car.
I did leave out he had the car towed to my house since I sold it to him. I looked at it for a while and gave up, even the resident VW mechanic on here said it's near impossible to fix. I pushed it into his mom's driveway (three houses over) where it just sits.
Dude is opposite of in shape.

It's currently on the market. No sign in front, but it's listed.
Then I've looked at it.

It has two sides, each rent for $850 a month. I think it could go for more. Rented a side last week.
Yup, I seen't it. Not what we're looking for though, trying to get into a single-family house in that area.

That side of town was nice before the apartments were built. Now its a shite hole.
ETA: not sure if always sec. 8 or became sec. 8 sometime after they were built

Forcing people to associate with and live among people unlike them is just plain inhuman. Using their own tax dollars to do it is evil and cruel.

It can't and won't go on forever. People should be speaking up loudly about this, without fear of being called racist by the horrible people that are forcing this on them in the first place.

With this being said, isn't Southdowns rent always pretty steep? How much would said Section 8ers have to come out of pocket for a $1600 a month place?

That's what I thought. I remember when those apartments were first built.

We have a 2/1 1260sqft with an office that were contemplating putting on the market this summer.

That's in my ballpark. Good outdoor space or a shop? I honestly think the summer is going to be the most likely time for my condo to sell.

After, once they realized couldn't fill them otherwise. I'd have been some kind of pissed if I had signed a lease only to have them come afterward and make it section 8.

Hopefully a very young one because you've demonstrated that you know absolutely nothing about economics, housing, government programs and reality in general.
And before you go and pull out your worn out race card, I am black. So is my wife and we both grew up in different neighborhoods in BR that went section 8 when we were kids. We both watched our neighborhoods turn to dogshit within a few years.
Section 8 is bullshite. It's not a race thing. It's not a ghetto or white trash thing. Its a "my wife and I busted our asses to live in a nice place and are invested here and don't want people moving in who aren't similarly invested"-thing.

That would def suck.
I lived in an apt complex in North Phoenix that took section 8. Massive complex...all the section 8rs were placed in the back of the complex. It was like night and day though. Front of the complex was quieter and the people living there not trashy. Back of complex...totally different story. Every weekend you would hear police helicopters overhead with searchlights going over the back looking for someone. Cars broken in on a regular basis back there. And all the apartments in general just looked worse...trash on the balconies, etc.
No surprise when the complex did a total renovation...front was where they started...leaving the back the last they attempted to clean up.

8x12 metal storage shed and 20x15 patio with electric and cable wired to it...we bought it fully renovated 4 years ago.
