The Comite Diversion Canal was started in the early 80's. It is scheduled for completion next year or the year after that.
It is 12 miles long.

Agree on the lack of connection to Dawson’s creek Issues yesterday, but at the same time they are all interrelated problems. And I watched Bayou Fountain flow backwards for several days in 2016 and my neighborhood streets become impassible as a result, and that was when all that now developed BREC property along Burbank was impounding a ton of water. And we haven’t yet discussed the Iberville Parish aquadams yet.

Just drove through Mestizo's parking to get to the Chevron.Water is draining and it is raining pretty hard.No standing water on their parking today as of 10:45 AM. Their tacos are too expensive.

I haven't heard of them starting any actual construction activities.

The issue with both has always been the federal dollars becoming real. Congress finally authorized both in the last year, hence they are both moving forward.

Did your home flood?
In most cases your street is designed to hold water in extreme events rather than your home flooding.
And there’s no doubt we need a regional approach to all this flooding. A parish can’t do it all alone.
Btw, to the best of my knowledge none of the BREC property was sold to private interests like the BREC property on Nicholson was.

Manchac is choked to the point it hardly drains from Alligator Bayou west. It should handle waters in southern EBR and northern East Iberville and flow from west to East.

I'm not familiar with any drainage issues caused by that. Most of the flooding issues I know of in Iberville are closer to the prisons, and the only homes that have flooded in the UClub/Bluebonnet area were due to backwater in 2016 or insufficient subsurface conveyance during the high intensity event last summer. Neither of those situations would have been improved by improved conveyance in the upper reach of Manchac.

The upper reaches of Manchac bisects the Iberville/ U Club area and would certainly help drain that part of the world if maintained.

Didn’t BREC own the property across from the soccer complex where the model airplane spot used to be? What about the property between the soccer complex and the WalMart on Burbank? No, my neighborhood worked as designed but that was before the huge areas that were holding water next to me were raised and paved.
And the Alligator Bayou/Bluff Road/U Club/Prison issue was also something I don’t think has been looked at since has it?

I don’t think it was. I think it was privately owned and that club rented Part of that property

I’m guessing it’s flooding again since we just had a huge rain storm over the last couple hours. Not sure what changed but they used to have to put up barricades under the railroad tracks when we had the slightest rain, then that area was fixed. Now it’s worse. They had a La Quinta hotel behind Mestizos that was purchased recently and torn down for a parking lot for LWCC. I’m guessing that didn’t help.

Went there for the first time a few weeks ago. My initial thought was damn, the prices are high ($90 for 3 people no drinks).
But the food was delicious and the portions were huge. So it was worth it. Will definitely go back. Once the water recedes.
