Something I noticed about OT that boggles my mind

Daily there is at least one ridiculously dumb OP started, and it rightfully gets downvoted to oblivion. HOWEVER, somehow it also finds its way to 8+ pages.
Can someone explain this crazy phenomena to me? I can't seem to wrap my head around it.
Oh, and here's some eye candy for the time you dedicated to reading my stupid OP that will now go 10 pages. Cheers.

This board is filled with emotional idiots that magically appear as if there is some kind of bat signal. Last night LSU beat Grambling in baseball and the game thread was 20 pages. Four weeks earlier we lost to Southern and the thread was 43 pages. In the Southern game thread, there were poster losing their mind that I hadn't seen in any game thread all season.

Also sometimes the OP will get downvoted into Bolivia (Iron Mike) but then someone will respond with the same general opinion and all upvotes.
I think a lot of people are more likely to downvote the thread starter as it’s in their curmudgeon nature.
