Lateral stability is not one, but two 2x4s stuck in the dirt holding up a 15ft high 30ft wide structure with 3000lbs of people crawling on it?
Seems legit

They were working with a tight budget. Only 4000 people pre-registered at $45 per person. Gotta trim those costs somewhere.

Can't imagine a lot of the sue-happy types go to those things, but that's an open and shut case

Thing was all nailed together. Not hinged, bolted or straps used to put it all together

A girl with the middle name "N'Awlins" sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen

The hard part is not simply climbing over but, getting over before it crushes you and everyone else around you.

I'm glad I turned down the invite from co-workers for this weekend warrior pseudo-athletic bullshite. I took a look at the website months ago and thought that it looked like a more advanced ropes course. Carnival rides come to mind.

WTF is that piece of crap? There is no way that is acceptable for it's intended use and there is no way a competant person signed off on it.
Unbelievable.
Unbelievable.

So this event is more like a waltz than a dash?

I don't think this thing will be here ever again. From everything I've heard and seen it's completely there fault. Also will be a very large lawsuit.

This is a bit of a tangent rant, but it's all interrelated. Most people who participate in these things aren't avid fitness enthusiasts. But The amount of people that are into these things is hilarious. It's become a sub-category of the "harder is better" delusion. It's on par with the rest of the degradation and bastardization of the fitness industry. Not that the warrior dash is challenging, but it provides a perfect recipe to frick your self up for no reason. Now this tragic event... It's just another shining example, albeit a new one, of where fitness has gone. Safety has been replaced with fun & effective has been replaced entertainment. The knowledge base of the people who ARE ABLE to call themselves "fitness professioals" is at the lowest I've ever seen it in my 20 years in the industry. The envelope keeps getting pushed, and Orthos keep getting richer & richer?
To sum it up, what people do to get themselves into "shape" nowadays provides significant risk to actually achieving just that. It should come as no surprise that the things they do for "active entertainment" provide it too.

At least they are active and not lethargic couch potatoes that are succumbing to type 2 diabetes and other ailments related to obesity.

I was passing through St Francisville after the event on unrelated business. I stopped at the Francis walk up counter. 8 unfit types were outside eating at a picnic table with these viking looking hats on which I presume were a finishers token.
This group was definitely not going to be running the LA marathon or Mardi Gras mambo in the near future.
He's right.

Yep. I'm a very naive & trusting person by nature & this didn't really surprise me. I knew they were a money grab, capitalizing off popularity. But I still assumed they were held held themselves to some type of standards. Guess that part surprised me
