In the 90s, I had an app apartment in old Spanish town, that I would stay in 3 nights a week.
In an old whore house.
It was an interesting time and place.

I think Red Stick is a cool nickname.
Also, I’ve always loved this quote from Confederacy of Dunces:
The only excursion of my life outside of New Orleans took me through the vortex to the whirlpool of despair: Baton Rouge.

Every store on Saturday is super busy. Which sounds miserable but it clearly means those businesses are likely a success.
But damn I hate the crowds and traffic.

- your family is here (otherwise no one would choose to live here)
- 4-5 hour drive to some of the best beaches in the US
- LSU
- it’s nice to be an hour from NOLA for the food & entertainment
- an hour to MSY for decent nonstop flights.

I’m not from BR, but I love it. Nice easy livin’
My sister is in Austin and it really sucks. Traffic is incredible. Nobody knows each other. Neighbors are rude. No community or shared history. Food sucks imo other than bbq or Mex-Mex. No good celebrations. And when there’s free things to do, it’s so slammed, that it’s not fun.
My gf and I have talked about it, and if we end up marrying, we wanna raise our kids here in BR over Nola….
…..But will probably end up in Northshore which is much better safety-wise

It’s a little smaller since St. George was formed.

A lot of the governors were criminals. Some openly, some hid it. Some were openly evil and actually shite on any honor code
Only one of these thieving, stealing, conniving, evil bastards was shot in the state capital.
Baton Rouge's citizenry has shown great restraint.
