This happened to my grandfather twice, once when he was 80 and the second time when he was 82. He lived in rural north Alabama on 15 acres alone. He returned home from some dead peckers outing after dark and was jumped by 2 meth heads who probably knew he lived alone. They roughed the old man up pretty bad, about like your friends dad. The sheriff at the time told my grandfather to come see him the next morning for a CC permit and he did. The 2nd time didn’t work out so well for the heads. From that time on my grandfather always had a 25 caliber pistol in his front pocket and I mean always. This was over 25 years ago when the law knew their community and would help you. Tell the old man to arm himself. If you are depending on law enforcement you are screwed.
