The state gov could try and appropriate the $0.75 they tack on there a little better. Sadly, the more money you give government, the more they spend on unrelated things. And if you let government add a tax to something, there is no way in hell it would ever be removed. I have a better chance of making straight A's than you'd have trying to get government to "temporarily" tax something and then repeal it when not necessary.
If it DIRECTLY benefitted the LA/Southeastern economy, I'd be okay with it. If anyone else had their hands on it, or could use it for something else, no bueno. I understand the complexities behind the situation also

This is just me, but I don't trust people who do the door to door thing unless I know who they are. For example, a while back I needed my house pressure washed & right around the time I was thinking about it, a guy I knew of, who was just starting out trying to get some business, stopped by & I gave him the business, but if its random people I don't do it.
Before this happened, that was my policy, but this is an example why. I guess it was about 2 yrs ago there were these guys walking around in certain neighborhoods & knocking on doors asking if they could do anything more money. It was a group of them, 4 or 5 white dudes who looked all methed out.. Anyway, they were all in the "better"neighborhoods & people in each neighborhood one of them were in, called the cops & they all got arrested. Evidently they were trying to see what people had in their house..

Was he old? Sounds like something my grandpa would tell me to do if I didn't have a job and was having a hard time finding one.

Upper 30s, lower 40s I guess. He was more looking for a job job as opposed to wash your car type thing. My husband is a farmer but only has 1 employee at this point full time but in the spring often times does need add'l help. He got his name and number.

A lot of these people getting laid off haven't looked for work in years.

He was wanting to come inside and scope out your pad so that he and his "son" could rob you while you are at work.

You could have hired him to shovel a path for your son from DC back home, before the inevitable Snow Orgy occurs.

Tough times are out there right now. It's bad. Kids with high level degrees can't even find work.

I won't pretend it's the 50s but one person isn't reflective of the US economy either
