Most boomers have almost nothing saved
Boomers, at least those in the 64-74 age range, have the most saved according to https://finance.yahoo.com/personal-finance/banking/article/average-savings-by-generation-194254649.html
and are right in the middle in terms of % in transactional accounts, those could be stocks, mutual funds, and indexed funds susceptible to market fluctuations or could be in money market accounts and other less susceptible areas.

Millennials: $4,322
Generation X: $7,155
Baby boomers: $6,043
Silent generation: $3,177
Not as much as Gen X. I suspect if you looked at it relative to net worth it may look a little different, as well.

so I disagree with your premise
You may have good reason to do that but not because of the reasons you stated. I know my retirement accounts took a hit, it happens, but I still have a few more years until I would have felt comfortable retiring anyway and I expect it to recover.

Also, this is not a short term fix, but these tariffs will have America 10 times better off when the plan is done. Tighten your belt for a little while (if needed), buy on the way down (if you can), and watch America become GREAT AGAIN.
The fact that this got 90 down votes shows how far China has infiltrated and rotted the brains of American youth via Reddit and Bluesky.

The OP is just defending Trump, because Trump promised his working class baws they would get raises.
They dont understand the bigger picture.

Dear Pax, my retirement has in fact taken a hit. While I am certainly bummed that that is the case, unlike younger generations, I can in fact see past the end of my nose. You see young person(I won’t assume gender), I have kids and grandkids, I know that these measures will help them in their future. Of course my kids, ages from 34-20, are indeed making their own way and doing all the things you pointed out in your op. Unlike like you and others of your generation, my kids are not whiney professional victims. They are getting it done. Oh, and don’t worry about us too much, we will be ok.

Was I crying or screaming?

That word is almost silly to use anymore. In the next 5 years, like 90%+ will be retired and none of this will matter at all

The ones I see crying are the ones who create these kind of threads.
If anything, a young man with ambition today is a wolf among fat, lazy, entitled sheep. He can eat til he busts.

This has little to do with the specific topic, but its about Tarrifs and this isn't about what will work or will not work, I am just pointing out that Elon Musk has lost $130 Billon this year and still a billionaire.
msn money
With that much money you can do things that 99.3% of the people living today can only dream of.
You could build your own strip club and have strippers and cocaine in every state and half the countries if you want.

The multibillionaire definitely has some skin in the game as well. Musk has lost around $130 billion this year, and some of that is due to the tariff backlash.T

That's what the billionaires are telling you while they devalue your assets so they can buy low.

How is this determined? My wife and I will probably pay $7k combined on our credit cards in a typical month. We both pay the full statement balance every month, though, so we don't carry debt.
