I was stopped at a stoplight. He hits me from behind, nothing major. I see him throw it in reverse and start to pull around me. I’m thinking “you motherfricker…” and start following him, trying to get my phone out to video his car and license plate. Within seconds, I see in my rear view mirror a cop. He bolts around my car and starts following the a-hole, who runs a red light. Cop puts his lights on and pulls him over. It turns out this guy was drunk, probably here illegally too. since the cop told me they had a hard time getting his name, and No insurance of course. The cops gave me a case number, his full name and address and took no information from me (no ID or anything).

The damage was not too bad, but will definitely need some body work. I’m about to check my deductible, but am I fricked on trying to recover any cost from this a-hole? Small claims court worth it? I’ve just never really been in an accident where the cops
were involved so I don’t know what to expect.

You can't get blood from a turnip.

I worry about this kind of thing. It happened to my mom when I was a kid and my parents had to pay to get it fixed.

You have his address, bring him the bill for damages, maybe he'll pay it.

You didn't insist that the cops take your info and put it into the report?

Maybe he could be your butler for a month. Could lead to a great friendship or your murder.

I was stopped at a red light and a guy hurrying to make the left turn arrow clipped my side mirror. He didn’t slow down so I took off after him. He pulled over and acted like I was overreacting. He gave me his insurance info off a card he had in his wallet. It was a Sunday so I called first thing Monday and they confirmed he wasn’t insured - he made one payment to get the card and then didn’t pay again.

A coworker’s husband ran a body shop so he got a new mirror and installed it for the cost of parts. I didn’t even bother going after the dirtbag.

Depending on how much this sets me back, can I not take him to small claims court and have his wages garnished?

Oh it’ll set you back.

Probably isn’t a legal citizen…probably is working a cash only job.

You are going to pay the Desuctible. Nothing you can do if he does not have insurance.

A dump truck driver ran me off the road and into the street signs at the end of Brightside at River Road back in 2015. fricked my car pretty good to the tune of $9,000. He kept going and some good ole baw students at the time witnessed it, followed him, pulled him over, told him they were reporting it with his license number, came back to me and gave a statement to the cops.

Next morning on my way back to work (worked at LSU at the time), I see this mother fricker again on the river road. Called the cops and reported his location. Cops came, attempted to arrest him for hit and run, he tried to get away, they tased him, then arrested him.

Long story short, I got my deductible back.

Once in a lifetime story that nobody ever believes when I tell it.

The cop witnessed the accident? You got super lucky there.

Always carry UM coverage in Baton Rouge no matter what. One out of four people you see on the road is uninsured and there’s a high percentage of people driving around BR unlicensed.

Bring a bat.Tell him to pay it, or he's gonna get double that in hospital bills.
